I'm basically motivated by curiosity and feel that anything can be interesting if you start to think and learn about it. This is the main reason why I love travelling - there is so much to discover. I love meeting new people and learning their stories.

I'm interested in physics and part of my studies were on atmospheric physics, including climate change, which made me very aware of the craziness of the human race. I've become even more passionate about environmental issues the more I travel and see for myself the destruction of the planet, which is happening everywhere. I try not to fly, unless it's absolutely necessary - would rather sit on a bus for 10 hours - and I hope to spread awareness of what's going on by taking photos, writing about it and talking to people. It's too easy just to give up!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I initially started Couchsurfing because I never have much money and so when I travel I have to get around as cheaply as possible. That is still true (oh dear!) but I've also come to hugely appreciate the insight that Couchsurfing gives me into different cultures. There is nothing like staying with a person who knows the local area. It's not about being shown around or entertained - I really don't expect that - it's simply the process of talking to someone and being invited into their world . I am constantly humbled by the kindness and generosity of strangers. Most people basically want to do good.

Interests

Dancing used to be my first love - I would dance whenever and wherever I could - but sadly I have a long-term injury so now I don't dance so much. Happily, I've been living near the sea for the past five years and I've got into dinghy sailing! I bought a cheap boat and it's free to do, so I go out about once a week during the warmer months. I love walking in the mountains too. Also love reading, photography, film, physics, singing, swimming in the sea,, and people! I had a year-long obsession with scuba diving when I was in Indonesia, but since being back in England it's been beyond my budget for the most part. I bought some inline skates on Ebay and have been doing that instead.
