About Me

CURRENT MISSION

MOD DESERT WARRIOR FOR PEACE

ABOUT ME

Hello out there! Any-body-home??? I'm Hayley (AKA Delilah for purposes of my Blog) and Shaun (AKA Jack) is my partner in crime. We are both university students who enjoy politically charged debates, reading, cooking, watching science fiction and foreign films, travel, adventure, thrift shopping etc...
We worked very hard (I waitressed at an East Indian Restaurant, Jack delivered Pies and held down the fort at a videostore) so that we could afford to take last summer off to travel.

PHILOSOPHY

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." - (borrowed from Nelson Mandela)

"And those who were dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music." -( borrowed from Friedrich Nietzsche)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Well, Delilah and I both don't know if we could classify anything we have done as "amazing", but here is a list of interesting things that we have both done together, or apart during our meager existence on this tiny sphere composed of mostly water, in the vast expanse of the infinitely amazing universe of existence (inhale).

-Walked on a glacier
- Won first place in the highland dance competition in Canada's largest highland Games
-Swam in the Great Barrier Reef
-Read Lord of the Rings front to back in grade three
- Went on a five hundred kilometer cycling trip, solo
- Followed a family heritage in Scotland, and visited the clan castle
- In possession of a full cat skeleton
- Been across Canada, coast to coast
- Attended Lollapalooza in Chicago
- Held a koala
- Canoed and camped on the Magnetawan River
- Jumped off a 40 foot cliff into water (maybe higher?)
- Visited Graceland (Elvis' house)
- Worked at an ostrich farm
- Saw Steven Lewis speak
- Went skinny dipping in the Pacific ocean
- Seen in person, not at the zoo: Black Bear, Moose, Beaver, Loon, Bald Eagle, Platypus,Deer, Eel, Dolphin, Turtle, Jelly Fish, Manta Ray, Bass, Trout, Salamander, Snake, Koala, Dingo, Kangaroo, Unicorn, Dragon, Liger and many more that we can't think of.
-Seen Neil Young seven times in concert
-Seen also: Rage Against the Machine, Bob Dylan, David Bowie and many, many more.
-Been to Petra- convinced our parents we got married in a bedouin ceremony and slept in a cave
-Been to the Church of the Holy Sepelchur, and seen many more religious sites in Jerusalem

-Stayed in a cave hotel in cappadocia
-Saw a church made out of 40,000 human remains in Kutna Hora (Czech republic)
-Hopefully, many things yet to come...

Teach, Learn, Share

Jack and I are two young adults who have an "earnest desire to save the world" (For all you Ishmael readers out there)! But first we must be able to overcome our preconceived conceptions of reality, society, cultures, human beings, and the world itself. Travelling abroad, and engaging with people from other countries around the world seems the logical place to start. To quote a famous revolutionary, this trip (and our lives) are an attempt "to [feel] a little more fraternity with this, for [us], strange human species".

We offer to our couch-surfing host:
- Friendly discussions (world politics, history, literature, pop culture, sex, drugs and rock n roll)
- One amazing meal (Jack makes a tasty pasta dish and I, Delilah, can do a decent vegetarian curry)
- We can feebly play instruments if there happens to be any available (Violin, guitar and a mean tambourine)
- Sharing our culture (regal stories of Canada pertaining to polar bears, freezing winters, hockey, maple syrup, lumberjacks, igloos, snowmobiling, beavers, moose, and the great expanse of the vast wilderness of this country).
-Any information you would like to possess about Neil Young (literally ANY information, Delilah is obsessed with this man!)
- ANNNDDDD of course, Friendship!!!!!!

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Egypt, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Jordan, Palestine, Poland, Romania, United Kingdom, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
