ABOUT ME
I think traveling might be my true passion--I love meeting new people, comparing different cultures, and learning/experiencing different ways of life. And of course, tasting all the different cuisines of the world.
I also enjoy writing, reading, hiking, biking, movies, music...And pretty much anything closely related to sitting around a table with a bottle of wine, food, and friends.
PHILOSOPHY
On the one hand, I don't really like over-thinking things--sometimes it's better to just live--but on the other hand, if I had to give some deep thoughts on the meaning of life, I would say that basically life is a journey of figuring out who you are, what you love, and how to harness that information and passion to make the world a better place.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
My first time surfing was in the south of Spain--it was a great experience and I'm looking forward to more!
I haven't hosted before, but I hope to get more involved during my time here in Europe, and then also when I return to the U.S. There are truly few things I enjoy more than learning about all the different ways of life out there.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
None yet, but can't wait to make some history (probably not textbook worthy, but maybe a couple crazy ones for the grandkids. maybe.)
Interests
I love music, pretty much any kind, from classical (even opera!) to the most techno-est crap you can find, as long as it's fun to dance to. I took classical piano lessons for years, but wish I could "just play."
Sports are also great, I can appreciate any, at least as an enthusiastic fan, except maybe golf, which I just can't seem to find any excitement in. I played tennis and soccer in high school, and hope to take up tennis some time in the future again when I have time and money.
Other than that: food, drink, movies, theater, singing, being goofy/making a fool of myself, the outdoors, biking, running, books, anything else that someone can convince me is worth a gander/try.

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: Deconstructing Harry, I am Love, pretty much anything with Meryl Streep...
Music: As long as there is someone to give me a little background about a band or artist that they like, I usually enjoy pretty much everything...But Ingrid Michaelson, Florence and the Machines, and Regina Spektor are some tried and truenfavorites.
Books: Anything by David Sedaris or Adam Gopnik, also Crime and Punishment, Birdsong, Middlesex...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One of the most amazing experiences of my life was hitting the streets of Manhattan after it was clear that Obama had won the presidential election. NYC can sometimes be isolating, but for those few hours, everyone was walking on the street, cheering and laughing with the same purpose--to celebrate hope for the future!
Teach, Learn, Share
I can touch my tongue to my nose! I can whistle! and make a really loud clicking noise with my tongue--really, louder than most people!
More seriously though, I love learning anything that someone else feels like teaching me, unless it involves a lot of math. I love exchanging ideas about anything from religion to the best way to brew a good cup of coffee.
