About Me

I am amazing at relaxing and not doing anything. I am a data scientist and I work on my computer from home, using data to try and model/predict human behaviour. I drink, dance and sing horribly when I am not on my laptop. I go to sleep really late and wake up around noon. I have a crazy big Kurdish family that I talk about way too much. I call any trip that doesn't require me returning home with an emergency passport a success. I love really long, intimate, intense conversations that ultimately don't mean much, but I live for those shared moments between quasi-strangers.

I've never been to a Walmart, one of these days I am going to plan an entire trip around going to a Walmart. When I go to the US, 90% of my time is spent on eating all the junk food I can. All I am looking for in life are deep fried oreos, deep fried cheeseburgers, cheetos crusted mac and cheese, twinkies, cinnabuns and pop tarts in crazy flavors.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I can't really host anyone right now, since I don't have my own place anymore after leaving Budapest for a few years. I'll hopefully get my own place and will start hosting, and I'd love to find some hosts until then!

Music, Movies, and Books

I once traveled 25+ hours to Chile to see Eminem. Next up, Detroit in September!

I also really love Schubert, once spent 9 hours at a Schubert marathon, on my feet, hangover as hell, and I still think of it as one of the most amazing musical experiences of my life.

My taste in music is very unhip and kind of crappy, I love anarcho communist ska punk bands from Turkey, but also Rihanna and Shakira. I spend years listening exclusively to one band before getting obsessed with the next one. I don't like electro music, and love ska/punk.

Movies are harder. Linklater stuff, Donnie Darko, everything Ed Norton, Frozen and the Little Mermaid, and Lion King, and Aladdin, and Inside Out, all of Pixar, probably, Lost in Translation, Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Million Dollar Hotel, Dogville.

Books are the hardest. Ulysses is my absolute favourite and ultimate obsession. I read it regularly, like one reads the Bible. And most other things by Joyce. Then Salinger, especially his Glass family stuff. Vonnegut's books have been in my life since the first day I started reading books in English. I am also kind of a potterhead. Paul Auster is a contemporary author that I enjoy because everything about his fictional worlds feel so authentic. I love Thomas Mann and Hermann Hesse, that era of german literature is the one that defines perfect literature to me. Usually, I just read the books of my favorite authors over and over again, and I would love to have another literary-obsession like the ones I used to have.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

biked down death road in bolivia - the nature was so distractingly beautiful and stunning that I could understand why people would die biking down there

I had a Doritos Locos Tacos Supreme at Taco Bell once, it was absolutely and awe-inspiringly fantastic - I took a romantic selfie with it.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Austria, Bolivia, Chile, France, Italy, Peru, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, United Kingdom, United States
