About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To overcome challenges and meet amazing people.

ABOUT ME

Born and raised in the California Bay Area I've lived all over the state, from San Francisco to San Diego. For the past 7 years I've been consumed by a passion for running. I enjoy the dedication required to be a true competitive long distance runner or athlete in general. I started running as a form of cross training for badminton, another sport I have a great passion for, although these days the cross training roles have switched!

I opened up to traveling when I started going out of state to run races. My most memorable race so far was in Olympia, Washington where I met other runners from different parts of the country during the pre-race dinner. The experience made me realize that most people, while from other parts of world, are not so different than myself and that I shouldn't be afraid to engage with other people. So far it's been several years in and it's all been great, surfing and hosting alike.

I work at a non-profit that teaches programming to middle school and high school students. I also run a youth badminton camp in the summers. They are both very rewarding!

PHILOSOPHY:
I think a lot about how much of my routines and decisions are inherited and how much actually originate from me.

Interests

running, badminton, hiking, table tennis, orienteering, cycling, and anything active or involving the outdoors. I also enjoy chess, board games, programming, and reading non-fiction self-help type books.

I'm also a deep thinker so I'm naturally drawn to philosophy, especially ethics, existentialism, and continental philosophy in general (although I still respect all analytical philosophy). I would have studied and majored in philosophy and/or classics if there was a job for those degrees. They're serious hobbies for me. I think this also makes me very curious about other people.

Music, Movies, and Books

The book "Being and Time" by M. Heidegger changed my perspective on what it means to be human, or Dasein.

The movie "Brazil" had an impact on me, even though some of the acting was bad. It explored very deep concepts.

On a completely experimental level, the album "Chaosphere" by Meshuggah was the most eye-opening stuff I've ever listened to so far. I'm a big fan of Wild Nothing and 80s New Wave at the moment now.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've cycled 100 miles to a 100 mile running race, then cycled 100 miles back the next day! I made a VLog of my adventure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nahmH5WgYKQ

I ran up a 2,400+ foot mountain 87 times in 87 days! I made a vlog for that challenge as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoRO0byyH0I

I once met a couple at the pre-race dinner at a small race in Olympia (~200 people) and then meeting up again at the gear check line of the Portland marathon out of nowhere right before the start (>10,000 people). That's insane!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share stories about running for 30 hours in the Julian mountains of San Diego. Or about cycling from San Diego to LA and back to run the LA Marathon. I've also been a badminton instructor for 7 years so I can teach you how to play badminton, give history, or string your rackets 😊

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a very curious person so most likely I'll be asking about the things YOU enjoy and what YOU'RE about!

Or if you're curious about me I can tell you all about the crazy outdoor adventures I've done!
