Overview
About Me
Outgoing and bubbly but also introverted and pseudo-intellectual, I'm often up for a good time but can be random, awkward and weird. Currently a mission to get to know as many people as well as I can while I'm here in the UK, studying, because who better to learn about the world from than people?
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Because people! and places!
If I only wanted to meet a lot of people from various backgrounds, I'd go to a hostel (did it in Edinburgh and it was an amazing experience), but aside from the cost factor (help a poor girl out? :D), it's so much more immersive and holistic to be able to immerse myself in the local culture by spending more time with one or two people. I won't treat you like a free hotel and tour guide. I want to properly know you as a person, rather than just catch a few snatches of conversation in communal areas.
Unfortunately, I can't host as I live in a tiny dorm at the moment, but if ever you have questions about Singapore or the UK, I'd love to help. :)
Interests
Debating, books (not so much anymore), TV shows, cycling, swimming (also not so much anymore), photography, hiking, travel, family.
Recently started learning how to dance at uni and I'm not great, but I promised myself I'd learn something new here, so I'm sticking to that commitment.

Music, Movies, and Books
generally into indie (as well as my dad's old love songs): Alt-J, The xx, Of Monsters and Men, Kodaline, Florence + the Machine, Wolf Gang, Daughter, Wild Child, Holley Maher, She & Him, The Head and the Heart, Foster the People, fun., The Temper Trap, Imagine Dragons, Keaton Henson, some Mumford & Sons and London Grammar
BUT currently in a nostalgic mood and am listening to 2000's pop hits.
Movies - varied but I absolutely love movies that have great cinematography, such as The Grand Budapest Hotel, subtle ones like The King's Speech, suspenseful ones like Hard Candy or Black Swan, light indie flicks like (500) Days of Summer and Juno, mystery and thriller ones like Memento, The Prestige and (recently) Now You See Me. Not so much into action, or anything Michael Bay, though I like a good superhero movie as much as the next (wo)man.
Books! I used to be a literature student and adore The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes, which formed the basis for a paper of mine. I don't follow authors as much as musicians, but broadly speaking...Barnes, Kazuo Ishiguro, Murakami, Rowling, Gaiman... I tackle classics but don't love them, though plays are very readable - I'm compelled by Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie and A Streetcar Named Desire, and The Importance of Being Earnest cracked me up with its humourous witticisms.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've been three-fifths of the way up a famous mountain. *wink* (I like hiking, though.)
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach...English, Chinese? I can't hold myself out as being an expert in anything (though I did teach home tuition for a couple of years back in Singapore), but I'd love to share all my experiences with you, and learn about yours.
