About Me

ABOUT ME

This is a precious moment, just retired, and wanting to make good use of it.
I'm doing creative stuff - scupture, finishing a novel, I guerilla garden in the lane out back of me; I am held by Quaker practise and that meditative attention and care for what’s happening in the world. And time now to venture out into the world again, to places I’ve not been.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

There is so much to learn that I don't yet know! New places, cultures, ways of thinking. And meeting one or two fellow-travellers (by definition being a bit open & curious, on this web-site). An opportunity to share stories, wisdoms learned over a glass of wine, or walking together. And a particular pleasure, those who are older too and have a long lived experience of life.

Interests

My kids, my friends . I have written two non-fiction books in my area - psychoanalysis - and am coming to the end of my first novel. I have painted and done stained glass - but what is currently giving me joy is clay-modelling with a life-model.

Music, Movies, and Books

Just having time to read a bit more - fantastic! I've just read and loved Percial Everett's rewriting of Huckleberry Finn from the eyes of Jim, in 'James'. Elizabeth Strout, George Eliot ... and love a couple fo book groups I am in, being able to discuss, disagree and think again about what we have just read.
I recently watched in an old local cinema 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?' and I loved it. I loved the lighting, the photography, the acting ( I never knew that Elizabeth Taylor could act, she was stunning) and I thought the story was painful and very touching.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Crossing the glacier from Kashmir into the Zanskar valley at 17,000 ft - when I thought 'I'm not sure I can say I'm enjoying this right now but I know when I look back on it I will be thrilled' - and I was right. I haven't always followed my own advice, but it's remained a gutsy reminder.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm most interested to host or share w older folk - ageist I know, but I am curious learning from and sharing life experiences.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A wise and warm view on life, it's ups and downs! Garden planning. I could offer to cook - or to clear up afterwards...

Countries I’ve Visited
