About Me

Hi, am Dennis Kyalo, from Kenya.I’m an easygoing traveller who loves meeting new people and exploring different cultures. I enjoy hiking, cooking, photography and I’m always up for great conversations. Whether it’s sharing a meal or learning something new, I’m excited to connect and make the most of my travels. Looking forward to meeting like-minded adventurers!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Through Couchsurfing, I can interact with locals and other tourists, exchange stories, and discover other cultures. In my opinion, getting to know the locals is the best way to fully experience a location. The chance to form deep friendships, make enduring memories, and have genuine travel experiences that go beyond just sightseeing is provided by couchsurfing.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite music is world, jazz, and indie rock—I can't stop listening to Fela Kuti and Bon Iver. I always love live music, especially quiet, small-scale performances.Gabriel García Márquez and Haruki Murakami are two authors that I adore. I was inspired to travel and embrace life's uncertainties by Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist."I adore the surreal animations from Studio Ghibli and the oddball movies from Wes Anderson. I learned from Into the Wild that there is a lot more to discover.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Exploring the old Fort Jesus was one among my incredible adventures in Mombasa. You could sense the rich history of centuries of trade, conflicts, and cross-cultural interactions once you passed past its historic walls. The encounter was made more serene by the magnificent view of the Indian Ocean from the fort's ramparts. It was made much more memorable by later exploring Old Town's meandering lanes, which were filled with lively markets, Swahili architecture, and the scent of spices!

Teach, Learn, Share

Making a traditional cuisine from my culture is a fantastic way to share, learn, and teach on Couchsurfing. Sharing a recipe allows for a cultural interaction in addition to a meal.Through food, I can build a shared memory with my host or visitor, learn their favorite recipes or cooking secrets, and teach them how to prepare the dish. Language barriers can be broken down and bonds can be formed around shared tastes.

What I Can Share with Hosts

One interesting item to contribute when staying with a Couchsurfing host is my favorite unusual recipe or a local meal. Offer to prepare it with them or for them. It's a wonderful way to connect, share your culture, and create a lasting impression. Bonus: You two get to share a delectable supper!
