ABOUT ME

I've lived in Antwerp since I was born and I love my city, although, like in every healthy relationship, we argue a lot. Especially when I meet other cities or, worse, mountains.
I work as a buyer in a bookshop that deals in second hand and antique books, and consider myself somewhat of a painter as well.
I like staring in the distance, pretending to be philosophical, while in fact my mind may be as empty as the gaze in my eyes.
Small warning though: I can and will quote Family Guy in any given situation...

PHILOSOPHY

"You have to be always drunk. That's all there is to it--it's the only way. So as not to feel the horrible burden of time that breaks your back and bends you to the earth, you have to be continually
drunk.
But on what? Wine, poetry or virtue, as you wish. But be drunk."

This famous quote by Baudelaire has become the core of my earthly dwelling. So mostly you will find me drunk, on literature, poetry, painting, travel, friendship, love, a crow sitting on a tree outside my window or, of course, beer and scotch.

Interests

What happens in the Big Woods and what happens in the Big Cities.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: I started out with the great Russians and somehow found my way into the realm of American poetry and literature. Took me about ten years though.
Movies: There will be blood, Unforgiven, In the mood for love, you know, the long, dark, not so funny ones.
Music: Anything from Boards of Canada to The Mars Volta

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Although I've seen bigger mountains, in bigger countries, in better weather, I still believe the most beautiful thing I have done was backpacking through a remote area on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. Walking on the windy cliffs above a raging sea as in the distance clouds rolled down the dark slopes of the Black Cuillin, that was a sight I will never forget. The desolation was complete, the nature surrounding us was ancient and fierce.
Also: New York.

Countries I’ve Visited
