About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To live, love, learn, and have fun! I want to find out as much as I can about this world and the people in it, and how I can connect, thrive, and realize my potential to change the world.

ABOUT ME

Hi! My name is Sean, I graduated from college in 2007, and I live in the great city of Denver in the beautiful, sunny, mountainous Western US state of Colorado. I currently teach preschool, 4-5 year-olds, which is a challenge, but fun. Trying to transition to something different...

My parents were in the US Air Force (FYI, my family are NOT militarists/imperialists), so I have actually lived in England, Germany, and Japan, as well as visiting a few other countries in Western Europe. I speak decent Japanese--I took it in high school and college, although I'm getting rather rusty with lack of practice. :( Also currently learning some Spanish. In the future, ideally, I would like to learn German, and maybe even Hindi, Turkish, Italian, Russian, and/or a local Native American language, like Ute or Dine' (Navajo).

I dearly miss Berlin, and definitely want to go back! For my money, it's the best city in the world. Besides that, I want to travel throughout the American West, Latin America, Europe, Japan/Okinawa/Taiwan, the Mediterranean, Africa, the South Pacific...just to name a few :)

PHILOSOPHY

Live and let live, but at the same time, care about others, and about the world. I try to be very laid-back and open-minded, and also try to "do good" in this world. I am a very liberal, progressive, cosmopolitan person!

"Entre los individuos, como entre las naciones, el respeto al derecho ajeno es la paz." -- "Among individuals, as among nations, respect for the rights of others is peace."
--Benito Juarez, President of Mexico, 1858-1872

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Surfed one week in Oakland and San Francisco--thanks, Jess, Dave, and Gabe & Co! Have also surfed in Austin, TX.

I have hosted a few people at my place in Denver for a few nights at a time. Been busy (such is the life of the teacher August-May), but glad to give people a place to crash, and hopefully some insights into this awesome area!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far, I have surfed in the San Francisco Bay Area and Austin, TX for subsequent spring breaks. It's how I hope to travel from here on out!

Interests

History, politics, education, global issues, and social change. Nature, ecology, and our relationship with our environment. Music, literature, theater, and different cultures, from India, to Africa, to Native America, and everything in between.

I love reading, writing, thinking, enjoying the outdoors, going out on the town, and just hanging out, connecting with people :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Rise Against, Against Me, Dead Kennedys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bad Religion, Bruce Springsteen, Jimi Hendrix, The Proclaimers, Bikini Kill, Johnny Cash. PUNK/SKA!, rock, indie, reggae, Afrobeat, Celtic rock, Hindi/Tamil pop, jazz/blues.

Books: I love Alan Paton, Kim Stanley Robinson, Barbara Kingsolver, Arundhati Roy, and Ray Bradbury: writers with a different, preferably radical angle on the world. Books about history, religion, nature, and current events.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Berlin, baby. Greatest city in the world, hands down.
The Grand Canyon, washed in full moonlight.
Great Sand Dunes, Grand Mesa, and Mesa Verde, CO. :)
The beaches of Delaware.
The little bucolic place known as Robeson County, North Carolina.
Ferry trip from Oakland to San Francisco--the Bay, and all its cities and islands, are gorgeous!
Gorgeous, fruit-laden northern Michigan in the summer.

Teach, Learn, Share

Lots of tidbits about history, politics, economics, geography, and sociology in general! (Warning: May contain substantial amounts of personal opinion and BS :)
