About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Can We Kick it? Yes we can.

ABOUT ME

I have lived in houses where we hosted travelers nearly every week. I used to book bands for an all ages venue in Lawrence so we had travelers and bands and friends of friends all the time. I know a thing or two about staying at someone's home....Let's see. When I travel to cities, I like plugging into what is really going on. I mostly like to go out to venues to see music or weirdo art shows or dancing! Local markets, percussion/music shops, hiking, veggie restaurants, historical tours, etc.

PHILOSOPHY

"We are the ones we are waiting for". I have it tattooed on my arm.

Interests

Music dancing, story tellers, biking, djing, DIY ethics, queer culture, etc.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music right now is mostly funk, Kid Sister (from Chicago!), Samba, DIY punk, Flosstradamus (Chicago once again), Saul Williams, and that's where I'll stop the music list.

Movies, I guess my favorite one is The Wiz. I like glitter and musicals, what can I say? Plus, the movie or should I say Quincy Jones made me love Disco, which is a huge feat. Props.

Books: I mostly love biographies and have been trying to get into fiction for years, but was spoiled with books like Ethan Fromme or Johnny Tremain. Patti Smith's biography was completely inspiring as was "Wake the Town", a book about Jamaican Dancehall history. I've been reading books with titles like "Strange Worlds, Fantastic Places" that discuss the visually amazing places on earth, and I'd like to check out some books about death around the world sometime soon.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I performed in Carnegie Hall in NYC when I was 6th grade with the Kansas Youth Choir. Pretty intimidating at such a young age.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know how to string up/tune a djembe (and from experience, I know it's hard to find someone with those skills that you don't have to pay) and I moonlight as a dj.
