About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I'm getting away from the grind to collect my thoughts and set new directions.

ABOUT ME

Scholar? Artist? Naturalist? Mystic? All of the above.

PHILOSOPHY

My quiet exterior hides my never ending thirst for adventure. I think life should be lived loudly, but understood quietly. It is in the quiet moments that we process and learn from the great adventures that we have everyday.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I was told of this site by a couple of friends on separate occasions; then I found a reference to it in a Lonely Planet travel guide. I had to see what it was all about. Now I'm traveling about, occupying your couch. Thanks a million. Every dollar saved is another mile on the the road.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've yet to have one but I'm looking forward to it.

Music, Movies, and Books

MOVIES: There are two that stand the test of time—Robin Hood and Fight Club. Otherwise I don't watch too many movies. I'd rather have my nose in a book or be outside.

MUSIC: Rock, Alternative, Folk, Jazz, World, Classical, New Age, even some Metal.

LITERATURE: Poetry; the works of Homer, Shakespeare, Hawthorne, Melville, Emerson, Thoreau; i also like nature writing—Tom Brown Jr. is my idol (not for his writing style but for his principles and skills).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

There are lots of things to be amazed of:
1. I was born at home.
2. I'm an Eagle Scout
3. I've backpacked 100 miles through New Mexico in 10 days.
4. I milked a cow and panned for gold during #3.
5. I graduated college and got to study lots of cool things—did you know that Newton considered himself more of an alchemist than a scientist?

Teach, Learn, Share

Having been trained in creative writing, I know about the mechanics of good writing and literature. I love poetry, and I love to read to others. Ask me to share a poem with you some time. My favorites are the Romanticists, but I've recently come into the works of Robert Pinsky.

I also have some knowledge in philosophy. Metaphysics is my favorite topic, questions of reality. But any philosophical banter is good. Let's start a conversation.

Finally, I have experience in basic survival skills. I'm a naturalist/survivalist and nature is my sanctuary. Need to know how to make fire without matches? Want to track animals or prepare medicinal herbs? I'm no pro, but we can learn together, and I'm finding that I know a lot more about nature than most, so hit me up.
