Overview
About Me
Hello my name is Derek Chou and I am currently on a sabbatical from my current job in the states. I'm an avid traveler looking for wonderful experiences to learn about different cultures. I was working as a Data Analyst in the states where I worked for Ernst & Young. After 2 years of work I realized that there was something missing in my life that I needed to do. And that was travel. So, for the past month and a half I've been volunteering at different hostels around Europe and have thoroughly enjoyed it.
I was born and raised in a city near San Francisco and have also lived in Texas for 4 years of my life. I come from a family of 6 and really cherish the time I spend with my family. I would consider myself a kind and caring individual that is always looking to make a postive impact.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I am on Couchsurfing because I think this is a wonderful way to meet locals and is a great way to immerse in the culture. Having stayed at hostels for the past month, although you meet many different people, you rarely get to meet the local people. That's why I want to utilize Couchsurfing, so I can really get a feel for the culture.

Music, Movies, and Books
I really enjoy most types of genres, but my favorites include EDM (House), Pop, and Hip Hop. I love action movies, especially all Marvel movies. I also enjoy a great comedy. I usually don't read too much but I enjoy personal development books, one specifically called Mindset by Carol Dweck.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One amazing thing I've done is go to the World Cup when it was in Brazil. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
Teach, Learn, Share
I would love to teach English to non-native English speakers. I would love to learn the local country's language. And I would love to share experiences with others to enhance each other's perspective on life.
