Overview
About Me
I am an educator and musician from the US, now living in Chiangmai, Thailand. I moved to Thailand in July 2015 and really enjoy the people, culture and lifestyle here. Although I've spent the majority of my life in the US, I'm enjoying the opportunities now to get to see more of the world.
I've been teaching music since 2004, and began playing long before that. My primary instrument is saxophone, but also play some piano, clarinet, and flute.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Now that I am living in Asia, I find there are so many different countries and cultures that I want to visit. I'm now traveling out of the country multiple times a year, and hope that couch surfing will provide a medium for meeting great people, and getting to know the real, local parts of a culture I visit, and not just the touristy areas.
Interests
I love listening to and discovering new music, as well as practicing my instruments. Beyond music, I also enjoy running, golfing, staying in shape, and discovering new places in and around Chiangmai.

Music, Movies, and Books
I enjoy almost all styles of music: Fusion, jazz, rock, R&B, funk, indie, soul, hip-hop, folk, dance, etc...
I really enjoy comedies and action/adventure movies. My favorites probably include the Lord of The Rings (books and movies), and Game of Thrones
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Moving away from home to begin an exciting new adventure abroad feels like the most amazing thing I've done. Even after a year of being away from home, everything still seems new and exciting. Traveling, and seeing how big and incredible our world truly is, is an experience like nothing else.
I also went skydiving on my 30th birthday. Jumping out of a plane is also a pretty amazing feeling...
Teach, Learn, Share
Teaching, ultimately is the reason I am able to travel. It is a demanding, satisfying and humbling career. As a teacher, I still think that not a day goes by that I am not still learning something myself.
Learning never stops, especially as a traveler. I am constantly trying to develop my skills with the Thai language, to better understand and be able to communicate with the culture I live in.
Share your experience. We can only be in one place at a time. My family back home might be able to visit briefly, but by sharing what I have in my life here, and what they have in their life there, we can all feel as though we are a greater part of this world than just one person, in one place, at one time.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I've lived here in Chiangmai for about one year now. I don't know everything there is to know, but with every week, I'm learning more and more amazing new places. When I'm traveling, I always want to discover more than what I would find if I was relying on websites, and the Lonely Plant guidebook. I want to see the local places, and the way the local people live. Those are the opportunities I would hope to share.
