About Me

ABOUT ME

Quite quiet, but interested in interesting things. I am up for a fair whack of things. I can come across as a pretentious twit, but underneath the rough exterior lies a heart of... ah, enough with the cliches. I enjoy life as best I can. Too busy to get a real job, and currently enjoying what life throws at me. Been travelling in one form or another for the last 2 years, and not planning on stopping anytime soon.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is too short to spend it sitting behind a desk. After all, no one ever said, on their death bed, "I wish I'd spent more time at the office."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm kinda new to couchsurfing, but from all accounts it's a great way to travel and meet new people. So here I am...

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

See above - newbie!

Interests

Literature, music, films, travel, random facts with no practical purpose, new languages especially Russian and Estonian, cooking, and surviving working full-time, studying, and having a normal adult relationship

Music, Movies, and Books

Recently - Pasternak "Dr Zhivago", Franzen "The Corrections", Frank Herbert "Dune", Terry Pratchett "Anything at all", Tolkien, Umberto Eco, Dostoevsky, Hunter S Thompson, PKD, Jeffrey Eugenides, Marlene van Niekerk "Triomf", etc etc etc.
Music - tends towards indie and metal, some electronica, classical, especially Eastern European composers (Rachmaninov's Vespers, Dvorak's Symphony no. 9, and Shostakovich's Piano Concerto no. 2 spring to mind), otherwise anything good, just no cheesy pop. It's like nails on a chalkboard, and for reasons I can't explain.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you Afrikaans, South African cooking, South African slang, and I can also give you a GOOD impression of SA. Ignore the media reports, it's a rocking place...

Countries I’ve Visited

Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Netherlands, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In

Estonia, Russian Federation, South Africa, United Kingdom, United States
