I think it's better than hotels. Every trip we take is an adventure, so why settle for some chain hotel when you could have a unique experience staying with interesting people. A host might have time to tell you about the area or take you to cool places. At the very least you get to experience the life of someone local to the area you are visiting. Everyone on this site is likely very open minded and interested in travel. I don't imagine people with closed minds or fanatical viewpoints would be drawn to an idea like this. Therefore everyone you meet on this site is likely to be compatible with you in a general way. At the very least you can assume without too much risk that everyone you meet on here likes to experience new people and places.

I love Japanese Biwa and Chinese pipa. I like classical, opera and rock.
I enjoy any films that are original competently made. I'm getting tired of these factory blockbusters and remakes. I enjoy Japanese cinema very much.
I mostly read nonfiction books unless someone gives me a recommendation for fiction. I've gotten some great recommendations though, such as Neil Gaiman, James Clavell, and G R R Martin.
