ABOUT ME

I'm Deryk, from a little town in Washington, now living in north Orange County. I was a ministry major at Biola University, and I love working with youth and seeing mentorship and community make those years great. I'm a big fan of meeting people and sharing conversation over food and drink.

I also love getting out into nature and riding mountain roads on my old Goldwing. I love creation, and can't go long without getting away from the city and out somewhere beautiful. The mountains, the desert, hiking, biking, whatever.

I love learning languages, and subsequently crossing communication barriers and connecting with people in cultures other than mine.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm trying to learn how to worship with my entire life.

I sleep on couches.
People sleep on my couch.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Started by hosting a guy in international ministry multiple times, it was an awesome experience that's turned into a friendship. More recently I've been back in the hosting game with a new apartment, and it's been fantastic every single time. Also had the privilege of hosting several refugees from the Middle East as they came here and got some care and direction through World Relief.

I have also surfed several times on road trips over the last three years or so and had awesome experiences. More surfing in the near future. I'm completely sold on CouchSurfing and I shamelessly rave about it to anyone who will listen.

Interests

Good conversation, coffee, sun, hiking, line dancing, driving standard, an open road on a motorcycle, learning other languages and crossing cultural barriers

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Biked a double century at 15

Bought a 30 year old Goldwing in eastern Washington, rode it 1200 miles home to LA

Walk through life with young people as we try to figure out life with Jesus. Invite teenagers step up to love others and serve the world.

I don't have much. I can teach you how to drive stick, hike a mountain, speak some Spanish. I can talk to you about my life - what I love, what I believe.
