About Me

CURRENT MISSION

go places. make noise. learn things. don't die.

ABOUT ME

i'm 22 and conflicted (not confused) about when and where to use capital letters. at the moment i'm living in Sydney completing the final year of my arts degree which unfortunately involves minimal art-making and rather quite a lot of essay writing. i got back from a year overseas in november 2008, where I went on exchange to Norwich, UK for six months as well as travelling through Turkey, Denmark, France, the Netherlands and eventually winding up living in Berlin for two of the most beautiful months of my existence to date. while i was travelling couchsurfing was the most amazing, inspiring, heartening thing and i really want to return the favour and host some people now i have a place. plus it's great to have people come stay from different places around the world - a reminder of all the different things out there!

as a person i'm pretty easy going. i play the violin and love talking to people. i'm pretty obsessed with music and can usually be found wearing some kind of flannelette shirt. i like baking cakes and biscuits, hitchiking, dancing to bad eighties music and lying around in the sun (provided i have plenty of sunscreen.)

PHILOSOPHY

LET'S GET ON WITH IT, SHALL WE ?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

surfing and hosting. people stayed with me in Norwich, UK and we host surfers at our house in Sydney, too. when i'm less busy with university i'd really like to get involved with the Sydney CS group as well.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

in the UK i've hosted a couple of people in Norwich and surfed in Leeds and Edinburgh. here in Australia i've hosted in Sydney and surfed in Canberra.

Interests

i like: traveling, DEPECHE MODE, playing my violin, going to see live music, doing horrible permanent things to my hair, finding things out, taking photos, reading books and talking to people. i'm into community organising, and DIY culture makes me really excited. i also like gardening and have four tiny pet fish.

Music, Movies, and Books

music: DEPECHE MODE, the buzzcocks, boards of canada, wire, the smashing pumpkins (up until machina II), BOB DYLAN, kansas, kraftwerk, feist, pavement, gary numan, crowded house, split enz, bjork, rufus wainwright, songs: ohia, the smiths, the pixies, laura veirs, robert johnson, GHOST MICE. lots else.
books: at the moment i'm reading 'the unbearable lightness of being' by milan kundera. recently i read 'the songlines' by bruce chatwin and that was utterly beautiful. i haven't read moby dick. i really like virginia woolf. at the moment i'm reading mostly academic type things for my degree, but for pleasure i like poetry and short stories. i like writers who are mean: the kind that pull you in and don't let you go until they're done with you.
movies: PURPLE RAIN. PURPLE RAIN. purple rain. repo man. princess mononoke. nausicaa and the valley of the winds. the labyrinth. welcome to the dollhouse. phenomena. blood simple. fargo. magnolia. grey gardens.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

not one big thing, but many different things, adding up to form a life.

Teach, Learn, Share

i can play the violin pretty well. i'd love to learn to play the guitar, i'll swap you for guitar lessons or a coffee or . . . a couch. i can also show you how to construct an eighties deathrock mohawk using only scissors, hairspray and magic. i know a little bit about dumpster diving, a little bit about hitch hiking and a mediocre amount about trying to sew your clothes back together. i'm quite good at writing. i can probably help you with writing + editing your essays and stories and books. i know a little bit about gardening. i am interested in how things work.
