About Me

CURRENT MISSION

About to embark on an Eastern European Adventure!

ABOUT ME

I spend my life looking for adventure. I love trying new things and having wild, interesting crazy experiences. I'm a bit of an adrenalin junkie and love doing things like skydiving or rock climbing. I feel like the world is so gorgeous and exciting and I want to see all of it.

I love learning things as well, especially programming at the moment. I love music and dancing is pretty much my favourite thing in the world. I love to cook, and I love eating even more. I thoroughly enjoy good conversation, particularly witty banter, bad puns, dry humour (or any kind of humour really), good stories and strange anecdotes.

I like people who are open minded and who really try to challenge themselves. I enjoy a good challenge. I'm crazy about sci-fi/fantasy, adventure and mystery as genres, both for books and film. I adore art and postmodernism and good writing and also occasionally bad writing.

I'm always up for doing anything and trying anything (unless it's something permanent that's going to make life a lot harder, like getting a tattoo across my forehead. That I'm not so keen on).

PHILOSOPHY

I sometimes feel that if I'm not really taking risks and really living life, then I might as well just read a book or watch a movie because they're so much more interesting than leading a dull existence. So, I balance my time between reading a lot and, when I'm not reading, making sure that I'm really making the most of life. I'm open to any new experiences, and to trying new things, and I'm always happy to take risks and chances and let people into my life, even if there's a chance it could end badly - because what's the point of living too safely if it takes all the excitement away? I love the ups and downs of life specifically for that reason, because even if everything goes to shit, at least I know that I'm really living.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I think people are like good books. They're so interesting and fantastic. That's why I love couchsurfing, you meet the most interesting people (I've only thus far used CS to meet people while travelling, or to meet travellers while I'm at home) and they're all so different to you and have completely different world views. And it's just such a great way to enhance your own understanding of the world, and it just makes life more interesting and exciting.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I couldn't host while I was at uni because I was never at home! But a lot of my friends did and when I had time I would help them show their surfers around, which was a lot of fun.

While I've been travelling I mainly use CS meetups and groups to find people to do things with, which has been super lovely so far.

I love surfing as well - but I don't like to think of it as free accommodation. I really appreciate having other people let me into their lives and I try to do as much for them to make sure they feel like they really enjoyed having me over and that their kindness was reciprocated.

Interests

I love sports, especially adventure sports. I'm also - don't judge me - a stunt cheerleader. I love books and music and dancing, I'm a fantastic cook, and I love eating! I'm also a writer, so I always love hearing people's stories.

Music, Movies, and Books

The Ill-Made Mute by Cecilia Dart-Thornton, Firefly, Serenity, The Hairy Bird, Aviator, Alice In Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, Mad Men, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, The Histories by Herodotus, X-Men (the comics), Fairy Tail, Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones, The Hobbit, Little Women, The Seven Ancient Wonders by Matthew Reilly, Sailor Moon, Skins, anything by Ursula K Le Guin, Discworld by Terry Pratchett, Star Wars (movies and books)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've done too many amazing things to count really, and none of them sound that great on their own. Bungee jumping in New Zealand was kind of cool. But so was snorkeling through the Great Barrier Reef. We got to have a buffet lunch on the boat too and I love eating, so I suppose the latter wins out. And we saw a turtle, which was pretty rad.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to cook, a little history, media theory and economics, how to handstand, and how to bridge. I'm trying to learn programming, so if you could teach me some of that I'd love it. I really just like learning things though so if you want someone to teach I'm always happy to learn.
