About Me

CURRENT MISSION

learn, explore, grow.

ABOUT ME

I'm a semi-recent college grad, still living near campus. Since moving into this neighborhood a few years ago, I've fallen into an amazing community of creative people. I like spending time at the local bars or (weather permitting) on porches and at bonfires.

The people are what make a place interesting, and I intend to meet as many people as I can. Those who get to know me seem to like me. I'm a little bit funny, pretty level-headed, and always adventurous.

I live in Detroit, which I love. Detroit is so complex and constantly evolving. Always interesting and always beautiful

My favorite way to travel is to arrive in a city and simply walk around. Exploration motivates my feet. I want to see as much as I can, and pedestrian activity is the soul of any city.

When in more rural areas, I am constantly in awe of the beauty of nature. I never get tired
of trees, rain, and sunsets. Such logical chaos...

PHILOSOPHY

I think we should all try to make things better, even in small ways. Especially in small ways. Big ideas are great, but I really get a kick out of the simple things that every one can do.

I love that people have a need to connect to each other and make the world smaller. And CouchSurfing is a great way to do that!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I love showing people around Detroit! I think this is such an amazing and unique city. Hosting surfers is a great excuse to get out and explore. I'm also fairly knowledgable about this city and some of its history. If you're interested, I'll talk your ear off.

Last Fall I traveled through Europe and had an amazing time! I mostly stayed in hostels, but the people I've met and the fun I've had have absolutely invigorated my life.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've hosted a few surfers now, and we've had a lot of fun exploring Detroit.
In Galway, I stayed with the best people and had the best fun! (still thinking of you, Sarah!)
I've also met several surfers being hosted by friends of mine. I really enjoy spending time with people who are curious and eager for experience, and who open my eyes to the rest of the world.

Interests

I like art, music, history, the exploration of places and cultures. I like exploring the city, going to events, museums, concerts, etc. Anywhere people are coming together, getting to know each other, and learning from each other.

I realize that a lot of people come to Detroit to see the ruins. This offends some of the locals, but I get it. There's beauty in the ruins. Some of the explorations are amazing experiences. But keep in mind that the pictures you take have already been taken by a thousand other people. "Blight porn" is very rarely art. And this city has a million other things to offer! So come see the ruins, but also see the amazing, vibrant city we have become.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In Ireland, I biked around the Dingle Peninsula and learned to dance in Doolin.

In Italy, I went to the top of Mt. Vesuvius to see the crater and to look out over the Bay of Naples. I had never breathed air that thin, and the fog was so thick I couldn't see my feet, much less an good views. We had a good laugh about it.

Teach, Learn, Share

Being a recent interior design grad and former architecture student, I really love Detroit's architecture and history. I could definately show you some highlights, but I don't claim to be an expert.

Designing for people means understanding people. By meeting new people, I hope to bette understand the common threads among us.

I'm also handy with tools. I don't know much about cooking, but I love helping out.
