Overview
About Me
I've wandered around (mainly in Mexico) teaching in English for the past year. That was real, but Mexico City got lonely af, so I just moved in with my main homie (Allison) in New Orleans. I'm working random jobs, trying to figure what the fuck one does with a degree in sociology to make money. That being said, I love to talk the social and cultural world, politics, human rights, et cetera. Al studied tropical medicine and immunology (or something like that) and is working as an EMT. Talk to her about diseases and hip hop.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Mutually beneficial relationships. Hosting breaks up the monotony of everyday life. It's much more than a couch. I've gotten just as much out of hosting as I have from surfing myself. I've met many interesting characters (and one or two boring ones), learned a lot, and made a few lifelong friends.

Music, Movies, and Books
Beats: Jazz, blues, rap/hip hop, R&B, neo-soul, offbeat shit... Odd Future (yea, still), K-Dot, Smino, Saba, Noname, Chano, Gambino, Nina Simone, BADBADNOTGOOD... and there are hella local artists making great shit (check out Tank and the Bangas and/or Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah on NPR's Tiny Desk concerts) and we can try our damnest to make it to a live show.
Lit: James Baldwin is my personal hero, closely followed by Allen Ginsberg. Collectively, we've a a sizable amount of dope ass books in the house, so feel free to take a book (excluding Baldwin) or leave book while here.
Movie/Tv: Broad City and Dear White People are true masterpieces. Y Tu Mama También, Get Out, Moonlight, Lawrence of Arabia, and Clockwork Orange are personal favorites. If you've got time, watch "The Whole Gritty City" to get a glimpse of NOLA; it's a remarkable documentary.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Once a lady bug was stuck on its back, struggling to return to its feet. The little critter was quickly relinquishing all hope while it baked on the sidewalk on this particularly warm summer day. This was where the sidewalk was to end for the poor creature. Until... I flipped it over. Relieved, the lady bug scurried away. It's life was saved. The day was saved. And I was the savior.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can talk endlessly about racial justice and the complexities of the Deep South, so you'll probably learn a bit about that whether you want to or not. I'm always eager to hear new perspectives, so share your experiences and insights and we're good. And, of course, we readily share booze and spliffs.
