CURRENT MISSION

Finishing a nursing program at Mercy College of Health Sciences in Des Moines, IA. At the end of the summer, late August, I will bike back to Portland, OR. Hopefully I can do some couch surfing along the way!

ABOUT ME

I am interested in homelessness. I spend Sunday mornings with a homeless camp outreach group. We bring canisters of coffee, some TP, batteries, little stuff like that and build relationships with campers all over Des Moines. It's a fascinating community. It's a nice feeling to talk to people without any agenda at all. I have been involved in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program in Des Moines for the last year and a half or so. This is another great way to be connected to the community, both kids and there families.

PHILOSOPHY

I have been thinking a lot about some of the central tennents of Bhudism. I attend a meditation group on Teusdays and do some light reading on the subject. The interconnectedness and practice of accepting the differences in the world rings true to me.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My roommate actually started the couch surfing extravaganza, but I have been really happy with the experiences we've had so far. I think we have hosted about six people so far.

I live with my girlfriend Eva, and another roommate Krystle. Eva and I have been together for about three years and we really love each other. I am trying to get back into biking, I used to bike all the time in Portland and Shanghai, but I think the extreem weather out here got the better of me. I play a lot of raquettball with Dohnovan, my little. Recently I've been trying to get into handball. It's a lot of fun, but it still hurts my hand a lot. I love to play games with people. Killer Bunnies is probably my favorite right now, but I'll do cribbage, Risk, I'd like to get into Ticket to Ride and Settler's of Katan.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

Huge Ray Bradberry fan. Also Steinbeck. I don't read very much for pleasure currently. I think this is an artifact of the nursing program. The Hours might currently be my favorite movie. I like classical music but I don't know much about it. I haven't been to any in a while, but I enjoy a good concert. My favorite was the Bouncing Souls.

I baked my first pie the other week. It was blueberry blackberry. And it was amazing.
