ABOUT ME
I was born into a family that loves to travel - with a Canadian mother and an American father, I spent a lot of time touring the USA during our summers. When my brother and I were still too young for school, our family lived for a while in a motorhome - gypsies, I suppose you could call us ;) - driving from one place to the next. All of that time as "gypsies" was spent up north in Alaska and Northern Canada (Yukon/Northwest Territories). There's a part of me that will always belong there, on the road. The travel bug bit me early.

I'm a self-declared nerd/geek, and I can be both shy or outgoing, depending on the day and the situation. I really love great conversation and hearing other peoples stories and viewpoints. Other people in my life have taught me so much - it's amazing the perspective we can gain when we really listen to each other. All that being said though I'm also perfectly content to curl up with a book and a cup of tea, or to explore the city on my own whenever required. :)

I don't smoke and I'm not a "party person" while traveling. I still enjoy a casual pint or two - just not in excess. :)

PHILOSOPHY
I believe that our life is what we make of it. There is so much possibility for each and every one of us - sometimes you just have to go for it, even if it seems absolutely illogical and pointless to other people (or even to yourself, sometimes). Happiness really isn't overrated - it's so vitally important. I'm working on doing more of what makes me genuinely joyful. :)

"That which you dislike in others is often something you fail to see within yourself." This quote has always stuck with me and helps me re-frame any frustration into the context of "what can I learn from this?"

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
So far, I haven't hosted but I was a very lucky guest in Oxford, England, and it was fantastic. It's amazing what a different tone a city takes on when you have a local there helping you out. :)
I'm happy to offer a couch/the floor (with blankets and a mattress of some sort, of course), and advice on where to go or what to see.
I'm also really looking forward to meeting new people as a traveler - and hopefully making some new friends in the process.

Although I've technically been registered for a long time, I'm still really new to CS, but completely willing and excited to add some experience! :)

I love books. All books. So many, many books. (And I'm always open to recommendations!). Classics, Modern Literature, Fantasy, Historical Fiction, Non-Fiction/Biographies, you name it. A few favourites: The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Historian, Tess of the d'Urbervilles, The Other Boleyn Girl, The Road, The Shannara Series, The Handmaids Tale, Jane Eyre, Eat Pray Love...

Music: Anything from the classics like Bob Seger and Foreigner, to Loreena McKennit and Leonard Cohen. Whatever I can connect to (which is pretty much everything).

Movies: Lord of the Rings, Forrest Gump, Breakfast at Tiffany's, The Imitation Game, The Theory of Everything, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Labyrinth, Eat Pray Love, Wild... etc, etc.

My favourite TV Shows are Sherlock, Doctor Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Downton Abbey.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

For my Dad's birthday three years ago, I went with my family to a Fire-Walking Retreat. I'm proud to say I walked on the coals (unscathed!) and broke an arrow on my throat. Exhilarating, to say the least.

An open, friendly attitude! Also, I'm great at washing dishes and sweeping or cooking. Basically, I want to make sure that I am beneficial while I'm there, not a nuisance. :)
