About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Start mustache gang. Shave. Grow beard. Start rival gang.

ABOUT ME

I'm a freelance writer/full-time student/blogger/sex columnist/agent provocateur. After high school, I lived in the Pacific Northwest, avoided work, and occasionally operated a chainsaw. Then I traveled around a bit, toured a good chunk of the US in a van named Pterodactyl, and realized I wanted to go to school for Journalism. So here I am, in my 3rd year of school, loving Austin and quietly plotting my post-graduation exodus, hopefully to someplace south and Spanish speaking.

PHILOSOPHY

Never whistle while you pee.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've got a couch! Since I first moved to Austin, I've lived in a series of very tiny one-person apartments but now I have a nice house with two couches and I'm ready to share the wealth.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

When I first moved to Austin, desperate for human contact, I went to a Couch Surfing collaborative art party. I made friends who lead to more friends and it was a good experience. While in Asia, I used Couchsurfing's rival Hospitality Club and though I never stayed anyone, I did meet an awesome lady and through her found rural farm adventures.

Interests

I'm an 8th level conversationalist so I can discuss most subjects including, but not limited to: genre film, superhero comics, the evolution of the modern hipster, ironic tattoo ideas, human sexuality, non-linear consciousness, Malcolm Gladwell, good places to get breakfast tacos, the Harry Potter books, how to get a party started, performance art, freestyle swim stroke technique, cooking with cast iron and more.

Music, Movies, and Books

Since you might be visiting let's focus on these as they relate to Austin:
MUSIC: Check out showlistaustin.com or avclub.com/austin. See any shows you want to go to? Let's go!
MOVIES: Go to originalalamo.com. Off-the-wall horror and exploitation films play on Tuesday and Wednesday for $1. Let's go!
BOOKS: I can tell you where a book store is or you can read something off my shelf, but I only really own paperback erotica compilations.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I saw two people dressed as Darth Vader play the theme to "Chariots of Fire" on keyboards in a basement house show. They were facing each other and lit only by the red and green neon lights taped to their keyboards. When the song neared its end, they fed it into a loop station so it repeated while they slowly moved into the audience, then drew together and began making out with their Darth Vader masks still on. It was the most punk rock thing I ever did see.

Teach, Learn, Share

We can throw knives in my backyard. I have a target. I'll teach you. It's easy and makes you look tough.

Countries I’ve Visited

France, Germany, Laos, Netherlands, Thailand, United Kingdom, Viet Nam
