About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I'm searching for new experiences-whether it's meeting new people, or learning new ideas, and new languages. Overall, I'm looking to share and be shared with. ,

ABOUT ME

Wanderer. Passionate. Hungry. Enthusiastic. Explorer.

I grew up in a small town, where I went to high school, and then college. Since early high school, I've been passionate about cooking, local food, eating, and the outdoors.

After graduating college a year ago, I moved to New York City to begin work at a fine dining, farm-to-table restaurant located on a working farm, where I currently work.

PHILOSOPHY

As clicheed as it may sound, I live life for the people I meet. In my job, I get to meet many people--they are all unique and, therefore, interesting. Their experiences make them special, and give them a valuable perspective. I love conversations with people about their opinions, as well as hearing about their lives--growing up, traveling, or staying in one place.

While i love to travel, "There is no better way to understand change than stay in one place" --Andy Goldsworthy.

My epistemology is informed, mostly, by the non-fiction I read. I like to read philosophy (Voltaire, Machiavelli, Thoreau, Sartre) as well as modern, pop-nonfiction. I'm trying to get more into fiction, as well, though, particularly historical fiction.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have offered my couch, I have spread to word to numerous friends about the value of the Couchsurfing community, and I have contributed, financially, to the Couchsurfing cause.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I first learned about Couchsurfing while traveling in Europe in the Summer of 2010 with a friend. It made my first European travel experience eye-opening.

I had four incredibly generous hosts. We cooked meals together, traveled to the beach together, and ate dinner out together. They made my travels in Bordeaux, Brussels, Amsterdam, and Lyon incredibly memorable.
I realized the benefits of increased cultural awareness and sharing that Couchsurfing offers.

Interests

Food:
I love to cook meals for friends, from simple meals like pasta, salads, and mexican food, and brunch, to more complicated, multi-course dinners. I love shopping at open-air markets, where food is grown locally because it always tastes so much better!

Other:
I also love to dance! I'm not a great dancer (admittedly), but I have a great time, and enjoy being silly!

When I'm not cooking or eating, I love to hike and spend time in the outdoors. I've been on many overnight and weeklong backpacking trips in the Norhteastern U.S. and in Colorado, as well as Vietnam, Thailand and Laos.

Music, Movies, and Books

Right now, I've been listening to Florence + the Machine, Adele, and the new Cee Lo album a lot.

I'll always be a Radiohead, Michael Buble, Explosions in the Sky, and Phoenix Fan.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I hiked the tallest mountain in Indochina (3,200 m), which is located in northern Vietnam.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a fair bit of experience cooking, from doing it for fun, to working at the restaurant where I work (both as a waiter, and volunteering in the kitchen).

I also know basic bicycle maintenance, backpacking/hiking, basic first aid, and a lot about the history of food and cuisine.

Countries I’ve Visited

France, Laos

Countries I’ve Lived In

Cambodia, Thailand, United States, Viet Nam
