About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to come up with something witty to list as my mission

ABOUT ME

I'm quick to question just about everything including my gut reactions. I'm generally pretty positive, but not in a saccharine sort of way. I love talking to complete strangers, though I also treasure my privacy and peace. I like to debate, but try not to get too out of hand with it. People say I'm compassionate and have a good sense of humor.

PHILOSOPHY

Well, I'm not religious, but I still feel that I have some kind of purpose. It's my personally-designated purpose, which I think is the best sort anyway. I feel compelled to improve this world of ours in some way. At the moment, it's by helping improve access to medical benefits, this time from from the state administration side.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'll start by signing up and hosting a surfer or two. How's that for a beginning?

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I mooched living space for several weeks after moving to Portland, Oregon - mainly with family. I've driven around the U.S. on endless road trips several times and benefited from many of my friends' couches. I've hosted couchsurfers through this website twice and may do so again. Unfortunately, my schedule these days makes it difficult, but I look forward to at least meeting up with travelers who are passing through.

Interests

Picking a direction and walking or driving in it. Movies, books, biking, hiking, travel, knitting, quirky little towns and people with little quirks.

Books: Station Eleven, various Neil Gaiman books, State of Wonder, If on a Winter's Night a Traveler (Italo Calvino), The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, Island of the Day Before (Umberto Echo), Gone Girl, Handmaids Tale, Longitude, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. Movies: A Girl Walks Alone at Night, The Science of Sleep, Gadjo Dilo, Harold and Maude, Hairspray (the original), Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, Being John Malkovich, Spork, Boyhood, Before Sunrise trilogy, various documentaries especially Devil's Playground, Dark Days, Man on a Wire, Capturing the Friedmans and a half a dozen others.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Watched the sun go down on New Year's Eve and come back up New Year's Day as I camped near Uluru (Ayers Rock) in the Australian Outback. We camped outside and had a spectacular view of Uluru.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know a fair amount about poverty law, especially Medicaid. Just don't ask me for legal advice, cool?
