As I get older the immensity of that which I do not know becomes ever more apparent. How interesting it is that we come to know ourselves more deeply while also observing, with increasing clarity, just how little we know at all!

My name is Andrew. I was born and raised in Oregon on the West Coast of the US. If you have ever been, I hope you will agree that it is a uniquely beautiful corner of the world. For its wild and varied vastness, it will always hold a piece of my heart.

I have since moved to New York City where I am currently finishing up my final year in medical school. I plan on going into pediatric cardiac surgery, though where I will head for the next phase of my training is a bit of a mystery at this point.

In keeping with the true New York City experience, I share a 370 square foot (34 square meter) apartment with Christopher, my partner of 7 years. He is both my polar opposite and my partner in love, travel, and life. He is also the world's greatest pianist but we are currently hiding his powers from his would-be adoring fans (or... we're relying on his income as a restaurant manager until we can flee this city for a more affordable locale where he may spread his musical wings and test his professional musical prospects with less pressure).

I'm also a very transparent person who loves getting to know others so please feel free to ask me any questions you may have!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I first came across Couchsurfing while on an extended road trip through Central and South America in 2008. I was, admittedly, hesitant to try it at first but I became convinced after hearing an overwhelming number of enthusiastic reviews from fellow backpackers. I was able to locate several Couchsurfers willing to host me or provide me with travel advice (restaurants, attractions, etc.) along the Argentinian leg of my trip and had an wonderful time! The experience helped me feel more connected to the places I visited, whether I was staying in someone's home or simply picking their brain about the best place to get lunch in the neighborhood.

My partner and I are currently planning a vacation in May (location TBD) and I am hopeful that I can once again use this site to better connect with our destination. We're looking for gay-friendly individuals who would be willing to help us with lodging or travel advice or who may be willing to show us the sites/foods/events/etc they most love about their corner of the globe!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent 7 months on a road trip that took me from Oregon to Argentina. Along the way, I roasted marshmallows over flowing lava, snorkeled with whale sharks, fished for piranha in the Bolivian pampas, and rode across the world's largest salt flat on top of a jeep at nearly 100 kph with only the roof rack to hold onto.
