Présentation
À propos de moi
ABOUT ME
I grew up in Thunder Bay, a small city in northwestern Ontario where I learned to canoe and adventure on the Canadian Shield. I've traveled all across Canada with my longest stints in Montreal, Nova Scotia and British Columbia. I'm currently settled in Ottawa working on a master's degree at Carleton University, where I study mining policies and their colonial implications.
While I'm currently pretty sedentary, I love to travel. I worked for two years with Canada World Youth and have traveled in South East Asia, West Africa, and Central America. Most of my travel has been through work, or school, but I've become increasingly enamored with cycle touring. I've done two trips so far (Montreal to Halifax, and around Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia), and plan on a cross-Canada trip once I've graduated.
PHILOSOPHY
It will all work out somehow.
Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm looking for new friends and future places to travel to!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've stayed with a few lovely hosts out in Nova Scotia/New Brunswick but have unfortunately never had a living situation that would allow me to host. One day I hope to have a lovely guest room and repay the kindness that other couchsurfers have shown me.
Centres d'intérêt
Growing up in Northwestern Ontario has instilled in me a love of outdoor adventuring. Camping, canoeing, and cycling are among my favorite activities. Most recently I've taken up playing roller derby (don't worry I only hip-check on the track).
I'm also a devote radio nerd. I worked very briefly in radio broadcasting, and have an ever shifting list of podcasts I obsess over. My current favorite is Radiotopia's The Heart.
Other things that are near and dear to me: social and environmental activism, trying to foster a sense of community, most simply I love to share good conversation over delicious meals with friends new and old.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres
Books: most things by Atwood and Alice Munro, I love contemporary novels. My newest favorites are Joseph Boyden's books. I also loved Lee Maracle's latest, Celia's Song. I suppose you could call me a lover of canlit.
Music: I love a good folksie tune. Patsy Cline is definitely a favorite, but I'm quite partial to Indie rock (Bahamas, Alvvays, Courtney Barnett, Joel Plaskett ...).
Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue
Biking the 1700km from Montreal to Halifax was an amazing experience. I was shown a great deal of kindness by many strangers, some of whom have become very dear friends.
Enseignez, apprenez, partagez
I know a wee bit about bike repair and would love to learn more! I'm also pretty well versed in environmental philosophy/thought. If you've got any questions about the politics of mining in Nunavut, I'm your gal!
