Overview
About Me
Hi, I am Dhritiman Chatterjee, but you can call me D; half of my family does. I am a designer and I study and live in Oslo, Norway. I am a great chef when it comes to highly experimental Indian food. I have perfected the art of making people laugh with/at me and I promise a fun (and intelligent) conversation, if you have the time to spare.
I am interested in books, film and photographs, apart from technology and design.
I, with my girlfriend (Madhulika Ringe, https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/madhulika-ringe?action=show&controller=user_profiles), used to host a lot of surfers, when we lived together. However, she now studies and lives in Tromsø, Norway, and so, our hosting is temporarily on halt.
So far, I have traveled in India, Norway, Thailand, France, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Poland, Iceland, Denmark, Sweden and Greece. However, Except India, Thailand and Norway, everywhere else has been a short stay.
I love dogs.
References:
As I hosted with my girlfriend from her account, all the references I have are there. Here are the links to some of them: https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/madhulika-ringe?action=show&controller=user_profiles
The first 11 references in the surfers section and the 1st one in the host section is for both of us. The rest are just for her.
Other than that, when I traveled to The Netherlands, I couchsurfed all the way and met amazing people. They had nice things to say for me as well.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I love meeting new people and making meaningful connections. For me, travelling is about seeking new experiences and not just views. I do not like going places, just to scratch out a list. And I remember places by the people I laughed with while I was there.
When I was hosting, I met really wonderful people. Without ever going to those places, I fell in love with Australia, Mexico, Guatemala, Pakistan, Lithuania, Bulgaria, France and Germany (and many more places). The people I met, in my home, for me represent the best image of their home countries. I want to do the same for the people I meet.
Couchsurfing is unique in that there is always a little bit of excitement and a sense of adventure when you are about to meet new people. Accepting a guest and getting accepted to stay with someone is a wonderful feeling and it uplifts the whole experience and image of a city for me. I love feeling this bit of excitement and adventure. I feel that it is amazing how much I connect with someone, in just a few days, that it actually hurts when they leave. This rarely happens in hostels and AirBnB and never happens when you live in a hotel.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: Ludovico Einaudi, Pink Floyd. Mostly, music which is meaningful.
Books: Zen and The art of Motorcycle Maintenance, The Fountainhead, The Motorcycle Diaries, and hundreds more.
Movies: Inside Llewyn Davis, Interstellar, Dunkirk, Inception, Rush. Film, for me is about feelings.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I will list three:
Scuba dived 18m deep in Mango Bay, Koh Tao, Thailand. On, my first dive ever. It was sunny when I dived in, Stormy when I was underwater, looking up at the raindrops falling on the surface of the water and then sunny again when I came up. It was the most out-worldly experience I have ever had.
A summer school programme in Træna, a tiny island of 456 people in the North of Norway, 8 hours from the shore, with 20 people. We, in 3 weeks, designed and built a sun room, a living room and an youth club, for those people. It is still the most fulfilling experience in my life.
Hot air ballooned over the skies of Vilnius and Trakai in Lithuania.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you design and making things by hand. I can teach you photography and can talk to you about a lot of things on a very mature level. I am a guy who listens to podcasts while sleeping.
I want to learn all the amazing things you have to teach me. I really mean it. Mostly, I want to learn about your life and your home.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can cook really good food and I really love to cook. Garlic Naan, chole bhature, chilli chicken, mojitos. You get the idea. I promise an amazing dinner if you host me.
I can share meaningful stories about design, which will make you look at the world in a completely different way.
I work with climate change and I can tell you about that stuff too. When that gets too depressing, I can make you laugh as well.
