About Me

ABOUT ME:
I completed a dual degree program at California College of the Arts in May of 2015 and have a masters in fine art and anonther in Visual and Critical theory. I love ART. I enjoy making experimental video, painting, cut paper collage, and I like to make music, which I'm not especially skilled at, but I enjoy.

In 2015 I took a 3 month solo journey to Ecuador and Peru. It's the most international travel I have done in all of my life. I went there knowing next to no Spanish and I intended to learn more Spanish than I did. It was such an amazing and difficult, life-changing experience. I met so many wonderful people and I hope to return.

In addition to making art. I like Movies, Cooking and eating meals with friends. I like pop culture. Cultural theory. Queer Theory. Feminism. Social Justice activism. Laughing. Dancing. Camping. Hiking. Creating community. Spending time with thoughtful people. Learning how to be more compassionate and less afraid. I appreciate the things in life that leave me speechless and communing with others in ways that are not heavily word based.

I am queer, sex-positive, and non-monogamous. When I am able to host I'm interested in hosting people who are queer, artists, and activists. I'm an introvert and can be pretty shy with new people, though it really depends on chemistry. Some people make me more shy and some people make me super talkative. It seems pretty random but probably has something to do with shared interests or similar life experience. That said, I have a high tolerance and value for silence and social awkwardness, and for experiences and emotions that lots of our cultural training encourages us to avoid and eschew.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have had wonderful experiences with couchsurfing. I have met so many friends through couchsurfing. I met my former roommates here after surfing their couch on and off for a few years. I have met many traveling friends who surfed my couch in Tucson. I haven't been able to host much since I moved to the Bay Area in 2011 and it's more difficult to host people when you share a house or have very little space.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I owned a queer coffee shop/restaurant in Tucson for four years called Rainbow Planet. It was at the center of a thriving community of people. I love serving people and I realized how rewarding it is to serve and contribute to community spaces. It was like nothing else I have ever done and was a huge labor of love. I had to close the business with the US economic collapse of 2008. My successor is Revolutionary Grounds Books and Coffee and I'm thrilled that it's still a community space.

Teach, Learn, Share

All creative expression is profound. I really like painting and making music with people.
