Of course, many travelers visit places organized for tourists, and stay at hotels that don't reflect the culture of the country, but more what travelers are used to and look for, no matter where they are. But if you want to discover the authentic places locals frequent, as well as get a deeper understanding of a culture, there are better ways of traveling.

Traveling is much more enriching and interesting if you're able to see a place from a local's perspective, where you discover how everyday life is, people's habits, as well as how they perceive the world. Only this way can you discover a place and its culture. This is what I like about couchsurfing.
