About Me

When travelling, people always ask me where I am from, I am always hesitant to say that I am from one particular country because I really feel that I am from the WORLD. However, culturally speaking, I am sure my friends would say that I am more European than I am Asian. Long story short, I was born in Hong Kong (with a Canadian passport) and went to Boarding School in the UK at the age of 14 and then lived there until year 2009. Then I moved back to Hong Kong to study Law until May 2014. Because I was sick of Law, so I decided to travel from June 2014 onwards.

I LOVE travelling! I have been travelling and living abroad by myself since I was 14. So I would say that I am a very independent person who is not afraid of new environment, people and cultures. I especially appreciate things which the majority of people would not appreciate, such as abandoned buildings.

I believe that everyone should be equal regardless of their ethnic origins and therefore I feel very comfortable interacting with people from different countries and cultures. When i am travelling, I would really want to live in a foreign country long enough in order to understand the culture of the local people and how local people live their daily lives there.

I have been travelling since June 2014. I have been volunteering at Wild Elephant Hostel in Bratislava, Slovakia. I was doing check-in and check-out for guests, general cleaning and leading pub crawls to get the guests to socialize with each together. I have also been teaching English at an English Language Centre in Bratislava. In Poland, I was volunteering as a Native English speaker under the "Angloville Immersion Programme" to have conversations about general topics and business with Polish professionals. In a small village in western Poland, I was helping a lovely young Polish couple with gardening work and some cultural exchange lessons at a local primary school. Now, I am working and living in Riga!

In terms of personality, I would say i am easy-going, honest and out-spoken person with a strange sense of humour. I love talking to people from different parts of the world. In fact, back at university in the UK, I was a student ambassador for international students. I have also done Camp America one summer in which I was working for a summer camp which was catered for children from broken families.

I would describe myself as a happy, fun and friendly person. I am certainly not afraid of trying new things and challenging myself. I have done hitch hiking before but have not been able to find someone to hitch hike with since! want to join?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To prove my theory that there are MANY nice people around the world who are willing to let us sleep on their couch and show us around even though we are total strangers to them.

I would love to meet locals from the countries in which I would like to stay for longer than a couple of days in order to learn about the real local culture.

To go to places normal tourists would not know about, and therefore go to.

To try local food in local restaurants the locals go to.

To learn new languages, especially how to say 'Cheers' and swearing words in these different languages :p

To experience.

Interests

I love tennis. I have been playing since I was 16 and have been in love with it since. I also like playing football, handball, basketball, badminton and table tennis. My favourite tennis player is Maria Sharapova (for obvious reasons :p)

I tried snowboarding recently and i would definitely do it again! I love being on the beach in the summer. Also, I like having intellectual conversations about life (i.e. philosophy), history, politics, psychology, economy and of course travelling stories :) But I also like to have drinks and party and talk about silly things and make silly jokes :)

Teach, Learn, Share

Don't be scared to do things that the society doesn't want you to do. At the end of the day, you are the only person who can make yourself happy. If you don't do it now, I am sure you would regret at some point in your life :)

Try everything at least once. If you like it, just don't stop doing it (until you get bored) :)
