What I Can Share with Hosts
Things to do in Amsterdam!!!
Museums- there are over 100 but I will give you a list of some of my favorites
● Museomplein- (translation: museum square) - contains the I am Amsterdam Sign, Rijks museum (4+ floors of everything), Van Gogh (order tickets online), Moco (Banksy exhibition), Stedelijk (contemporary stuff)
● Foam museum- excellent photography exhibitions
● EYE film museum- across centraal station you can take a free ferry over- each couple of months they feature a different directorial exhibition, contains cafe with a beautiful view and movie theaters in case you want to watch a movie.
Food/Beer - dutch food itself is pretty gross but they have restaurants from everywhere.
● Foodhallen - amazing indoor food court with anything your heart desires.
○ You can walk or take the tram from centraal along Kinkerstraat and there’s tons of great coffee shops (not the weed ones).
● Brouwerij’t IJ - awesome brewery with a windmill! Get the cheese and dry sausage with your flight of beer! Also next to Artis Zoo & Hortus botanic garden.
● Amsterdam Roest- cafe/bar with great atmosphere and music.
● Hannekes Boom- bar surrounded by canals, younger ppl, and good music.
● Albert Heijn or Lidl are the grocery stores here.
○ They don’t accept Visa or Mastercard so make sure to have cash.
● Pllek- Restaurant in AMS Noord (north) - a bit of a trek but the ferry to NDSM is free ~15 minutes. I would only go if the weather is nice. There’s great vegan food and cocktails and surrounded by art warehouses.
● Leidsplein - good place to drink beer amongst other tourist. Across the street is Bulldog Palace where you can buy joints and edibles, they call them here “space cakes.”
● The pool bar - bar with 10+ pool tables and darts. Indoor smoking area.
Sightseeing/ Shopping -
● Vondelpark- famous park where everyone goes to chill, smoke weed and drink tall cans. Tons of people with dogs too!! A MUST.
● Floating flower market – in outdoor mall shopping area, tons of cute souvenirs, a lot of places to sample various cheeses! A MUST.
● De 9 straatjes - (translation: the 9 streets) - Quaint, picturesque canal-district area featuring vintage & designer boutiques, plus cozy cafes.
● Jordaan District - The narrow canals and streets of trendy Jordaan are flanked by indie boutiques, cozy pubs and hip eateries.
● The red light district- go after like 11pm, i think it’s quite boring but something to check out. There are tons of places to buy weed and mushrooms legally here.
○ DO NOT TAKE PHOTOS OF THE GIRLS, your phone will get thrown into the canal.
● Marble vintage - good selection of well priced vintage clothes. Close to Heineken Experience, where you can also tour the brewery for like 18 euro.
● Artis- Zoo in East Amsterdam, walking distance from Hortus Botanic Garden and IJ Brewery
Clubs!!!
• For techno you can check out Shelter, de School or de markantine.
o They’re always having amazing lineups, be sure to know what djs are playing that night you may be asked by the door person.
o Check ticketswap app for cheaper tickets
• Melkweg/ Sugarfactory are more touristy but have more music variety.
Miscellaneous suggestions-
● Transport- i suggest you get 24/48/72 hour GVB ticket. It allows you to go on/off the trams and metros as many times as you’d like. Better than paying per ride.
○ This however, does not work for the NS trains.
● Have cash, some smaller bars and the grocery stores (Albert Heijn) only accept PIN, which is the dutch debit card.
● If you plan on going to a ton of museums there is an I am amsterdam card: https://www.iamsterdam.com/en/i-am/i-amsterdam-city-card-2?gclid=Cj0KCQiA2Y_UBRCGARIsALglqQ27X88jQBJHI1OF30NHFtoNpVVMsbYbhObAVlIzKxHMPz1kzr1RJrAaAvUFEALw_wcB&mrasn=266157.354427&xtref=www.google.nl
