About Me

I'm a scientist who loves travelling and so far I've had great opportunities to visit various parts of the world. Doing my studies in Physics and Mathematics, I've met people from all over the world, attended universities in 5 different countries and taken up lots of interests.
Other than that, I'm an amateur violin player and former conservatoire student, a former first aid instructor of the Italian Red Cross, a 10 kyu go player, various martial arts pratictioner and many more.
I like to discover new things, make new experiences, and I'm convinced that a life is too short for all the things that a man could learn.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

During my Erasmus in Lille the conversations of a group of friends about CS convinced me to try this new experience

So far I've surfed in France, Belgium, Romania and Japan, hopefully other destinations will follow soon; I host in my student house when I have the possibility. So far I hosted people in Utrecht and in Bonn: I have changed room multiple times, so beware when reading the references that my living situation might have changed since then.

Interests

I'm interested in many different thing:
Science, being my primary occupation, is obviously a field that really interests me, in particular Physics and Mathematics of course, but also more fundamental aspects like philosophy of science;
Music, as a violinist, is one of my great passions, from violin repertoire to church music, to rock and J-pop.
Go, mind sport of asian origin, is a game so complicated and intriguing that convinced me to abandon chess definitely, and despite being still a rather weak player I really enjoy it;
Dance, I'm a discrete tango and salsa dancer, stopped for a while during my master but found a very nice community in my uni in UK;
Cinema, I love both more intellectually engaged movies and B-movies, actually I think a good movie transcends the genre differentiation;
Japanese manga and animation, as well as Japanese anime music: favourite genres are action, detective stories, romantic comedies... well a bit of everything actually; I love going to lives in Japan, so different than in the West, full of energy yet a lot more organised; I'm cumulating quite an impressive collection of books and CDs;
Any other discipline you may think of (art, sports, videogames...): I'm not interested in everything, but I'm quite sure that you can easily find something I'm interested in

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: anything that is good :D yeah I know it's vague, but I really appreciate any good movie. Favourite directors are Leone, Kubrick and Tarantino.
Books: The Lord of the Rings, much of classic literature, the Feynman lectures on Physics (not exactly light literature but a great work anyway)
Music: baroque music, anything composed by Bach (of whom I have played both in choral and instrumental works), but also more modern genres like classic rock and heavy metal; as for J-pop, favourite groups are ClariS, Kalafina and Sound Horizon (Revo and Kajiura are amazing)
Animation: I spent entire nights without sleeping watching series from the '70 to nowadays. Neon Genesis Evangelion is an easy favourite, as for more modern ones I adore the Key/PA Works Angel Beats and Charlotte
Games: while I don't consider myself a particular involved gamer (I don't own any console and I don't even play with PC that much) I do enjoy games as well. I like arcade music games such as Chunithm and Pop'n'Music, but unfortunately they're available only in Japan. I'm also interested in the card games Weiss Schwarz and Luck and Logic.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Travelling through Europe at 18, four Model United Nations (met some great people, but eventually I realised it was not for me), being ambassador of the Italian Red Cross in a delegation to the Netherlands, learning to dance tango and salsa in Lille (and being at the milonga at the Vieille Bourse), going to both Gamescom and Tokyo Game Show in the same year, going to 6 live concerts in one semester in Japan where I could finally see almost all my favourite artists.

Teach, Learn, Share

You can ask me about everything under the section "interests".
My great objective is to learn Finnish language, linguistically my favourite one. If you can speak Finnish you are mostly welcome, but you can try to teach me any other language anyway. In my wishlist you can find also Russian. And finally I'd like to master Japanese: while I can communicate already, you're never fluent enough.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A good talk, some souvenir from my (last) country and my experience in anything mentioned in the profile. For long trips I bring sometimes my espresso machine, in the past some hosts really liked it.
