About Me
After graduating from secondary school, I rewarded myself by travelling around Peru in order to know and understand better my own culture, my people and my roots. Afterwards, I settled in Trujillo and started volunteering for non-profit organizations. I became involved with AIESEC, the largest youth-run organization in the world, where I worked as a member of the outgoing international volunteer exchange department. I also volunteered at Supporting Kids in Peru (SKIP), an after school program for children in El Porvenir, a deprived area in Trujillo, where I taught Math and Communication for about a year. Recently, I started a project that works in collaboration with the local government to raise awareness of environmental issues by giving talks at schools and encouraging students to take action and help us with our campaign. I have further assisted other local charities that mostly work with low-income sectors of the population. Working for all these organizations not only made me step outside of my comfort zone by exposing me to different situations than my own, but it made me aware of how diverse the world is and how difficult it can be to fulfill the needs of many people, especially in developing areas. I am glad that I decided to start volunteering early in my life because it helped me discover this is my real passion. Poverty does not just affect developing areas, however. Even countries with vast amounts of resources and potential also suffer from poverty, though at varying levels and degrees. It pains me to know that those who have the power to change the situation are often aware of it, but mainly act according to their own interests and in doing so negatively affect the population. I want to keep contributing to building a better world and finding solutions. And I believe volunteering is the way for me to do that.
