About Me

I’m a wandering Kiwi (person, not fruit or bird) who needed to escape to the mountains after completing my PhD. That’s how I find myself living in the heart of the amazing Canadian Rockies. I’ve enjoyed the adventure so far but am keen to explore all that Canada and the U.S has to offer.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’m looking to meet some new and awesome people, maybe other wanders? maybe people keen to show me their home town? anyone who is willing to let me into their lives for a day or two. I’m keen to learn from the experiences of others as I only have but one life to lead. A good friend of mine also had great experiences with couchsurfing in her wanderings down in California so why wouldn’t I give it a try?

Music, Movies, and Books

I've been super into Alvvays over the last couple years, the beat resonates with my rhythm, Molly Rankin's voice entrances my mind and the lyrics appeal to my introspective side. I saw them in Calgary over summer, felt like one of those teenage girls back in the day whenever the Beetles came and played.

I remember as a teenager that I absolutely loved Birds Without Wings by Louis de Bernières. Big fan of historical fiction in general.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Feels like a bit of a cop out... but persevering through my PhD project. It was far from smooth sailing and there were definitely a few times I came close to dropping out. I learnt a lot about about my limits but I came out the other side with an increased resilience in the face of adversity.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share an overly specialised knowledge in the use of solar energy for renewable fuel production if that unlikely happens to be what you are in to?

Otherwise I can share my opinions on West Ham's current performance in the English Premier League. That's also probably not in high demand either :P .

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Canada, Cook Islands, Czech Republic, France, Germany, New Caledonia, Peru, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Vanuatu
