About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I'm making my way across canada by automobile, giving strangers rides and meeting friends and new people along the way.

ABOUT ME

My seasonal occupations- tree-planting and cone-picking- have me living and working in some of Canada's vast wilderness for 4 or 5 months a year. When I'm not working I take a lot of trips: surfing on Vancouver Island, visiting family and friends all over California, driving to SXSW, care-taking at a remote resort on a tiny island on the coast of British Columbia, and many others. When I'm living in Vancouver I fix and ride pedal bikes. I own a fixed-gear, so what, don't hate. Cut out the middle-man, my legs are that much closer to actually being wheels. I skateboard though not as much as I used to. I'm not as tough as I used to be. I can trick: nollie backside heels on flat no problem, back smith in the bowl sure thing. And I can also cruise. Let's skate! I play music in my awesome basement where me and my roommates have a very advanced jamming setup where we can lay down some 45 minute drone tracks if we want to. Or beat-box infused, synthed out pop rock if we feel like picking it up a bit. I'm not afraid turn up the tremelo on my roommates longneck baritone guitar either. Let's jam! I like to cook really good food with my friends and it's probably this particular pastime (whether I'd like to admit it or not) that occupy's most of my time in life. General good old-fashioned hang time. I like to make soup, bread, cookies, burritos, salad, salmon if you got it, and so much more. I Have a garden in my backyard and it feeds me. I collect vinyl old and new and I love to relax on the sofa in the soundcloud ( the name of our sonically designed livingroom) and savour every sip of a homemade latte while I vibe out on some ambient rock. Right now it would be The War on Drugs if you know the band I'm talking about. And that's just a couple things about me. I like to think that I'm like an onion in that once you peel back a layer you realize that there are infinite layers.

PHILOSOPHY

I think I have a fairly deterministic view of the world although I always had a pretty hard time reconciling those feelings with my experiences of free will. I Mean, could we really have acted differently that we did, or are we just actors in a bigger story we didn't write though we are written as characters that will always believe there's no script.
But on a day to day level I think my philosophy come from the two near death experiences I've had recently in life. There's no time to angry about things we can't control (which might be everything!) so find some friends and lovers to love.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am a new surfer but I plan on having a couch open to surfers when i get home because I have a awesome house in what is probably, hands-down, the best neighbourhood in Vancouver: Strathcona. Our hood has a little bit of every of flavour and that's what makes it the best.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None yet but i'm eager and keen which, I think, is a good combo. When I travel I usually stay with friends but I don't know anybody yet in the places I want to go which is what brings us here.

Interests

I put a lot of my interests in the "All about me" above. Again: Surfing, working in the bush, skateboarding, cooking, bikes, traveling, eating good food, romance, dancing, having good times with friends.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Two Things
I loved a woman who also happened to be the amazing person I have ever met. And she loved me too. Bonus.

I recovered, almost fully, from having a minivan drive over my body, nearly ripping my face off, literally, stopping on top of me and crushing me to within moments of death. Internal organs badly damaged, countless broken bones, nerve damage, bleeding in my brain and more. Today you would never know it if it weren't for a few scars on my face. I did the learning to walk again thing, learned to deal with the post-trauma stress and everything. I'm back and I know how precious it is.
