ABOUT ME

I was born in Russia but grew up in Canada. I spent my childhood in Ottawa and lived in Toronto and Montreal.

I finished my university degree, worked for a year and realized that I need to pursue my dream of exploring the world.

At this point in my life, I value freedom, friendship and new experiences above all else.

I enjoy red wine and random 'spiritual?' experiences. (But would like to get fit and cut down on toxins whle traveling). Sadly, I like to hang out in hole-in-the-wall pubs with personality and listen to good live music, which leads to consuming alcohol at a pretty good rate.

PHILOSOPHY

In the words of Carl Sagan: "We are all made of star stuff." To me, this means that we're all interconnected and hence personally accountable to humanity as a whole.

Meaning is a human construct, so create your own.

I've surfed friends' couches and hosted them on my own. I've never gone through this website.

I would like to cover the world in 'couches' and provide a place for like minded people to stay.

Books: I'm a big fan of sci-fi. I believe that science fiction is the best medium to parody reality. Some writers I love: Philip K Dick, Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, Cory Doctorow, Ursula LeGuin...

I also read non sci-fi books by David Sedaris, Chuck Palhaniuk, Dostoevsky, Mark Twain, Oscar Wilde, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Isabelle Allende and others.

Music: I enjoy electroacoustic, singer-song writer stuff, jazz, loungey music, rock. Currently on my most my played: Leonard Cohen, Massive Attack, Brazilian Girls, Pulp, Radiohead, Death Cab for Cutie, Postal Service, Tom Waits...

First few movies that come to mind: Fight Club, The Dreamers, Scenes from a Marriage, Fanny Och Alexandre, Howl's Moving Castle, Eternal Sunshine on the Spotless Mind...
