About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Lets. Get. Ready. To. Rumble.

ABOUT ME

And in the left corner, weighing in at 170 pounds, standing 5 feet, 11 inches tall, with a total of 5 wins by knockout, 3 losses, and 1 draw, the undisputed middle class champion of creativity, warmth and humanity, David Brits.

PHILOSOPHY

Perhaps it's best embodied in this quote I heard on the radio once: "Those who wander aren't always lost." I like the sound and practice of that.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Hooked up and hung out with some cool surfers in San Fran and NY at the beginning of this year. And a friend of mine is the head of the Cape Town Couch Surfing chapter. That gets me a bit of cred, right?

Interests

Being barefoot in the outdoors, teaching young teenagers art and traditional music, brushing my teeth in the garden, 3 pillows, the smell of nice perfume on a woman passing by, contemporary art, post-colonial theory, travel writing, free verse, recording my 93 year old grandfather's stories and family history, getting barrels in cold water reefs, conservation, juggling, didgeridoo, rock climbing with my old man, architecture, a good read, bugs and snakes, fruit, fresh pastas outside with candles and mosquitoes nibbling my ankles, tropical beaches, and spending entire days traipsing museums.

Music, Movies, and Books

All of the books on the shelf of my little arty farty library. Woodstock 1969 Documentary. I'm well versed and pretty well read on most topics of literature, music and film, but not well versed enough to produce and entire boring list of the above.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Walked across the entire northern coast of Spain. From the Pyrenees in the West to the city of Santiago de Compastella in the East. A total of 900km in 34 days. Oh, and also single-handedly creating and running an art club once a week for kids at an underprivileged school in my area.

Teach, Learn, Share

How to juggle, imparting my good degree of knowledge on Southern African wildlife, how to draw a good cartoon character, how to tie a clove-hitch knot, how to rock climb, how to surf, and lots else I can't quite put my finger on.

Countries I’ve Visited

Botswana, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Madagascar, Mauritius, Namibia, Spain, Tanzania, Zambia

Countries I’ve Lived In

South Africa, United Kingdom, United States
