ABOUT ME
I'm a 27 year youngster and I want to see the world. Bit by bit of course, I've got time! As a kid we mostly went to the European Alps (hiking a lot!). I also did a part of Turkey which was amazing! Irland and Slovenia were also very beautiful and in 2008 I travelled solo for the first time. I went two weeks backpaking through the south of Sweden. I started to hitchhike over there and it was great.
social but sometimes timid, shy
PHILOSOPHY
Force yourself to new adventures! (like CS)
Try to break out of the cultural habits you have.
You can't be sure the grass is greener on the other side, to be sure you've to take a look. But don't forget to look back to the place you started, maybe the grass is green there too...
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm a member of this growing community and I'm loving it. I spread the word as much as possible. Let us all love CS and the world will look much better...
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
summer 2008:
2 nights at Randi's place in Copenhagen: wonderfull first experience. She showed me the elephants and we did a museum together. Very nice!
1 night at Karl's place in Gothenburg: only a short meeting, but so cool. He had a small appartment filled up with instruments. He could play them all! Very smart and sensitive guy, love to go there again!
2 nights at Kerstin's and Sofia's place in Stockholm: They made my trip end so good. Sofia took me to an improvisation festival and her mother took me to my first CS-meeting.
summer 2009
Surfed couches in New York for a week! What a wonderful people (Daniel, Amit and a lot of other people (see picture). Had an awesome time hanging out with CS-people!
summer 2010
surfed in Madrid for one night! It was the first night of our trip to South America. (we just had about 24 hours waiting time in Madrid).
summer 2011
no surfing :( only a CS-meeting in Berlin!
2011-2014: renovating my house, no time for travelling, no place to host!
Of course I want to host! But only few people are going, where i live :), this tiny village :) When I get requests, a lot of people want to stay near Antwerp, so I tried (with succes) to find a couch in Antwerp for them :)
Interests
Nature, culture, music, politics, fun, going out, reading, music, music, going to music gigs, people, art, tourism, hiking, hitchhiking, youth culture, did I mention music yet? ...
Started wall climbing and bouldering last year. I totally love it! Going to have my first outdoor experience soon in Fountainbleau!
I like a lot of things. It's so funny, with the right people I even could talk about sports, something that doesn't interest me that much (except for snowboarding, running, skating and watching tennis).

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: all things rocking (from hardcore, metal and punk through pop til acoustic rocksongs) Some favourite bands (Fugazi, Nick Drake, Jeff Buckly, Life Of Agony, Joan As Policewoman, Black Dub, Talkingheads, Dinosaur Jr. and so much more)
Books: too few actually. But recently read The pillars of the Earth: AMAZING, Everything from Haruki Murakami.
Movies: not that really into, but I like Quentin Tarantino, I like music, but I can't watch a live concert dvd: I just wanna be in the crowd!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
At the vikingreservate (Falsterborg, Sweden) a viking really took me back to 1238! I almost believed it :)
Saw the wolverine at Skansen (Stockholm, Sweden)
Slept on a desolated island in Irland and then suddenly a freaky fishermen came to us, wearing a big axe, scary!!!)? He only wanted to sing songs with us, but we were too scared. Actually I should go back and start singing!
The 10 dollar hostel in Vancouver: dirty but dirt cheap! And awesome people!
Machu Picchu: i was afraid it might be a tourist trap, ... it wasn`t. Arriving there at 5.45 am (after a run up the mountain of 45 minutes), and then seeiing the clouds slowly dripping of the mountains and revealing the lost Inca city... unbelievable!
Berlin!
Teach, Learn, Share
What can I learn you? I can teach you my minuscule language: Dutch. I know a few things about politics, since that's one of my interests. But I strongly belief that you only teach someone something if you start by looking at your 'pupil' as if he's your teacher. And then we get going and we don't stop before midnight!
