ABOUT ME

I've traveled and hiked on every continent, and cycled on most (didn't bother listing all the places in my 'travels' section). When at home I love riding my bike, mostly on-road - I recently tried off-road and have a couple nasty scars to show for it!

For the last too many years I've been studying toward a PhD focusing on anti-poverty interventions in East Africa. I'm almost done and will be moving to the DC area in August to take a faculty position at the U of Maryland at College Park.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

host some, surf some, hang out a little. mostly here for the resource-sharing, don't generally have a ton of time to hang out / show around - regrettably caught in the academic rat-race.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Never met a couchsurfer I didn't like! I've enjoyed getting to know people who were into the community-building aspect of CS - Darryl in New Orleans really went out of his way to show me around the swamps and jazz bars of his city. I also appreciate the diffuse reciprocity and trust inherent in simply offering a total stranger a place to stay for a night or two.
