About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Well... enjoy life, travelling, giving french people a good reputation worlwide :p, and trying to become a nicer and better person as I grow old

ABOUT ME

Hi, My name is Yannick, I'm french, have always followed THE usual way, until I decide to leave France to go to Australia 5 years ago when I was 25 (I thought I had never really been travelling then). After I dropped everything behind, I went off, and spent almost 3 years in Australia and Asia, then pretty much one year in Canada, a few months in Latin America. I've got itchy feet, the travel bug, you name it, but I love living abroad. All this travelling made me quite an easy-going and understanding person, without being slack nonetheless because i had to work quite hard sometimes (like planting trees in Oz, or working on oil-rigs in Canada). I don't really know along what path I am heading at, but I know that I am not ready yet for a normal life, at least in France. Even a routine would be acceptable, as long as I am not in my motherland ;-). Anyhow, I 'll be looking for a job in NZ where my brain would be a little bit more used than it has been in the last few years...(don't worry, I don't count myself idiot either, I have the right amount of pride and self-esteem)

PHILOSOPHY

Kinda tough to define... well, I'd say that I can't be bothered to worry to much in my life (might be very cheesy and corny, but it's true it's quite short, and time is flying by when travelling...). I just wanna keep learning everyday, try to be as open-minded as I can, and be nice to people in general. I totally believe in karma, so I really think that what goes around comes around. The fact that I am not into material things a lot (don't get me wrong, I won't be hypocrite I sometimes need my mp3 player, or the internet, a phone etc...) makes me hate greedy people, and those last years have been very helpful to this regard.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm sorry but I've got to be honest : I registered at Couch Surfing in prevision of my journey in Dubaï, for 2 days. I've been travelling for the last 5 years, and after a short stay in France coming back from Latin America, I am off again to New Zealand. So I think I won't be able to provide accomodation for anyone, but i swear I'll participate more actively when I'll be settled. So far, i have donated to support the whole system.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have none so far, but I am looking forward to this new experience!

Interests

I won't be original by saying that I am really into travelling, I think all couch surfers are, but that's a fact. I enjoy meeting people, partying a lot, trying to speak the languages I can (only 3, which are french, english and spanish). Since I've totally given up smoking, I am keen on running long distances, my goal would definitely be to run a marathon at least once in my life (we'll see later for the ironman then :D).
Generally speaking, I am quite simple, and really appreciate simple things in life like spending some time with my friends watching a movie, playing video games, cooking...

Music, Movies, and Books

All right, random :

favorite movies : True Romance, Dumb and Dumber, The Goonies, The Hangover, Shawn of the dead, snatch, a few awesome french comedies that people might not know : la cité de la peur, les bronzés, le père-noël est une ordure...

favorite music : quite eclectic, but mostly into electronic music, I love the french artists Daft Punk, along with Vitalic, Royksopp... Apart from that, at the moment, listening to Muse, Them Crooked Vultures, Foo fighters, Rammstein. Really fond of classical music too, which I would put on the same level as techno music sometimes, for the power which comes out.

Favourite books : Frankenstein, the Alchemist, Stephen King's books

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Seen the best sunrise ever in my life over the clouds, at the top of Volcano Tajumulco in Guatemala, witnessed the most beautiful storms in Darwin Australia, fought my height freight when Skydiving/bungy jumping in Oz and NZ...

Teach, Learn, Share

ok, I can cook a few french dishes. I am not a musician at all even if I enjoy listening, so I couldn't teach anyone how to play the guitar, but if anyone could teach me, I'd love it (or Erik Satie's Gnossienne n°1 on the piano...). And once again, I am fond of trying to take up languages, so I'd be interested to share some time with someone who speaks a language I don't know at all...
