Overview
About Me
I'm hunting ruins, shipwrecks, cool buildings, dark beer, and interesting people all around the world. I went on a RTW trip that began in June 2013, with just a few tickets and no solid plan. I traveled for 1.5 yrs and am now working and going to grad school, planning to move abroad once I’m done with school.
"A man must live in such a way that he is always prepared to die." -Confucious
I'm a big believer in working toward your goals. That's the only way dreams come true. Also, I travel light. Less shit to worry about.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I've been using CS to surf and meet people. It's great to get insight on places and perspectives, from the crazy to the mundane. Better education than anything you could get from a lecture. I've surfed quite a few times, but also traveled with others and met up for drinks or coffee.
Interests
Travel, reading classics, writing (NaNoWriMo!) and journaling, travel photography, going to metal shows, physics, space, sci-fi, scuba diving, WWII history.
My favourite things about travel are photographing ruins and architecture, random (vegetarian) food, late nights wandering around, long scenic train/bus rides, meeting people with interesting stories, experiencing diversity and learning history.

Music, Movies, and Books
Books: Classics, especially Russian. Leo Tolstoy, William Faulkner, Chaim Potok, Margaret Atwood, Fyoder Dostoevsky, Herman Melville, Jim Grimsley, JRR Tolkien, Garth Nix, Brian Greene, Michio Kaku, and lots more. Also recently read and enjoyed the Harry Potter books and A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones books). Movies: Anything action/marvel (Iron Man, Thor, Avengers), Lord of the Rings, Downfall, Harry Potter movies, older Star Trek movies since the new ones SUCK.
TV: Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Doctor Who, Big Love, Flight of the Conchords, Game of Thrones. I'm a bit of a nerd, obviously.
Music: I'm a huge metalhead. Some favourites: Soilwork, Volbeat, Dimmu Borgir, Children of Bodom, Epica, Samael, In Flames, Pantera, Slayer, Metallica, Iron Maiden... Goth/Industrial/EBM: Front Line Assembly, Oomph!, FGFC820, Ministry, KMFDM, Skinny Puppy, Nachtmahr. Normal(isn) stuff: The Cure, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode (!!!), Coldplay, Pink Floyd, Abandoned Pools, some other stuff I can't think of. I also like plenty of classic rock and some electronic stuff. And classical or movie scores.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Dove WWII shipwrecks in Micronesia, and with Whale Sharks and Hammerheads in the Galapagos.
2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
The Pamir Highway, Silk Road Ruins in Uzbekistan, and the small taste of Afghanistan I got.
Teach, Learn, Share
I want to teach people that classic books aren't all boring and difficult to read, that photography is more than either tech skills or pointing the camera at something pretty, and that if you really want something badly enough, you can work hard and make it happen.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I try my best to contribute something in return, clean up after myself, and be respectful of others' space and time. If I send you a request, I've thoroughly read your profile and debated carefully if I think we'd get along!
