About Me

CURRENT MISSION

finish degree, figure out next moves

ABOUT ME

A pragmatic idealist, I'm incredibly easygoing and can enjoy almost any situation.

I love talking politics, technology, history, art and the environment (and once I get going, it's tough to make me stop).

PHILOSOPHY

tread softly, but leave your mark

like I said, I like to talk, so ask for more when we meet!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I participate by surfing and hosting. I've had the pleasure of surfing on couches in 3 continents, and hosting on 2!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Surfed with Silvio in Goteborg on my way to Norway. Had an excellent time with the Italians playing a crazy game of Jenga.
I had a great surf with Matt, Nic and Alex in Voss on my way through Norway.
Kristin and I had a fabulous time hanging out with Kuba in Krakow. He hosted us in his lovely flat and showed us around a little at night.
On a trip through southeast Asia and Australia in 2010, I had a great time staying with Richard in Bangkok.
And Devon and friends made Maker Faire Vancouver even more awesome than it already was!

Now that Kristin and I are a little more settled in Kelowna, I've been doing some more hosting as well.
Shanshan and Alex were lovely guests; we really enjoyed hanging out with them. Jenie was wowed by our HOV lanes and then wowed us back with her voice and her keyboard. Then she liked us so much, she came back to Kelowna with her entire band!

And then there are the folks that didn't stay with us, but we've gotten to know and like. It was great having Chloe and Chris to hang out with when they were in town for a few months. And Marzi (who ended up surfing with someone else, but came over for coffee anyways) has become one of our favourite people to hang out with!

Interests

i like being around tons of people, and yet love a long canoe trip with close friends and family
i enjoy listening to music and the sounds of nature
i like thinking about how to do things differently, better

Music, Movies, and Books

Always changing, but here's what's up for now:
movies - my likes here are eclectic: the way way back, the stories we tell, lucky number slevin, airplane!, layercake, anything mel brooks (except young frankenstein...never got into that)
music - Anything with lots of good instruments/voices. From floyd, the dead, the doors, and the stones to gogol bordello (saw them in Kyiv...they were fantastic), first aid kit (free concert in Malmo...also amazing), ben harper and the casual smokers.
books - I'm trying to make my way through some classic science fiction at the moment, but I also really enjoy a good non-fiction read. What I've been reading lately: A song of ice and fire series, The world without us, 2001 a space odyssey, Asimov's Foundation series.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

i saw an ibex in a tree once (there's a picture in my photos). it's not terribly profound, but on short notice, while writing this blurb, it seemed like an appropriately amazing thing to write...

Teach, Learn, Share

Get me talking about environmental design and natural systems, politics, or anything art, engineering or technology related and I'd be happy to share!

I'm always open to learning from your expertise as well!
