关于我

CURRENT MISSION

To explore our differing perspectives of the shared road.

ABOUT ME

I'm a young professional, techy type who enjoys surrounding himself with artists and performers.

I work as a software engineer concentrating in distributed systems. But my real professional passions lie in robotics and artificial intelligence.

I program and solder and tinker. I make electronic toys and devices so that I may surround myself in a home made world. I weld a little and want to get better.

I'm also a life long traveler and enjoy periodically breaking away and journeying for long stretches. I've just returned form another such walkabout.

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy is both the guide of and product of my life. It is my longest running project.

Sadly it will not fit in the margins of this book.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

When I travel I surf but now I'm hosting.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've used couchsurfing a little in my travels for places to stay, people to meet, and coffee to be drunk.

I've just started to host and am looking forward to it.

兴趣

How we learn. How we know. How we come to share a reality. All the ways that people relate, build friendships, communities, tribes, nations and a world.

Urban exploration, abandoned factories and power plants. I like exploring forgotten places and finding beauty in decay.

Hiking, math, philosophy, theory of mind, machine learning, transhumanism, economics, film, food.

I'll read anything.

音乐、电影和书籍

I was once a film buff but have started slacking off in recent years. That said, I'm a big fan of Brazil, American Astronaut, Brick, and Waking Life.

I'll read anything. I especially like the short stories of Ballard and Philip K. Dick. Cat's Cradle, Siren's of Titan, and Breakfast of Champions are my favorite Vonnegut. I love everything Sarah Vowel has ever written. And I'm obsessed with Chabon, especially The Yiddish Policeman's Union.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

I've sky dived over the alps, and snorkeled the pacific waters of Costa Rica. I've hiked the rocky mountains and backpacked across much of Europe. I lived, for a time, in a commune in Spain. I traveled the United States for a year, driving and living out of my car. I've hitchhiked across the United States, all the way from Boston Ma to Seattle Wa. I've woken up at dawn on the streets of Vientiane, sat with a street walker and watched the monks alms procession. I've spent the night in a tree, surrounded by a herd of wild elephants. I visited the Salton Sea where lies the mummified corpse of 50's Palm Springs. I've discussed love and life with itinerant history teachers, mandolin players, Memphis bums, diplomats, and neuroscientists. I've seen a city, like a desert flower, blossom then die in a week. I helped build that city.

教,学,和分享

A people are not created through shared history culture or language. All of those things are created ex post facto when a group of individuals incongruously decide that they are the same. It can happen in an instant, and be undone just as quickly.
