- homeland of historian and writer Nikolay Karamzin (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikolay_Karamzin) (Poor Liza 1792, History of the Russian State 1818)
- homeland of poet of "romantizm era" Nikolay Yazykov (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikolay_Yazykov)
- homeland of lawyer and politician Alexander Kerensky (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Kerensky)

About modern Ulyanovsk:
- homeland of Dmitry Kryukov (creator of Rambler search engine)
- The two rivers flow in opposite directions a few kilometers apart in the city. Local folklore has it that the two flows create a mysterious energy that makes Ulyanovsk a magnet for famous people.
- city both Volga river sides of which are conected by 3rd in length in Russia brige
- first industrial wind energy park
