About Me

Hello!

My name is Dom, I grew up on a small island in the south of England, later moving up to the north for University, then to London to work in TV production. This was really fun, but my travelling instincts got the better of me and I decided to go and see the world a few years ago.

My favourite places that I have visited so far have been Pai (Thailand), Queenstown (NZ) and Byron Bay (Aus) - all very different with a really friendly local community. I recommend that anyone going to those countries visits those three destinations if possible!

I'm a friendly, creative person who likes to act, perform spoken word, get involved with sport, the gym and writing. I enjoy meeting new people, trying new things and music festivals.

My 'to do' list for 2018 includes learning French and mastering the ukulele.

If you'd like to chat on here, I'm always open to new friends and if you are in the south of England while I'm here then I'll find a way to get you a bed or couch - just let me know.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My curiosity for the unknown has led me to stay in many hostels, although I've found that staying with people in a house sitting or Workaway capacity tends to be a better way of building strong friendships and is more of an interactive experience.

Couch Surfing is an ideal option for me, as I can meet a lot of new, interesting people, some of whom will hopefully be kind enough to show me some of the area's cultures, food and night life, that is one of the main purposes of my travel; to step along the same path as some fascinating new shoes, and hopefully forge new friendships along the way.

I would also like to host other travellers when possible.

Interests

I am passionate about music, sport, performance art, adventure, comedy, surfing, self-improvement and spending time with genuine and open minded people who are happy to escape their comfort zones.

I meditate, although I should do it more often, and this year I realised that an office job is no longer for me, I felt like a caged animal.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music wise I'm very into the whole Motown scene (Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles etc), as well as hip-hop, rock, pop and virtually every other genre. Lauryn Hill from the Fugees and Talib Kweli are two of my favourite artists.

The best live acts I've seen are Linkin Park, Greenday, Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Wonder.

Movies: Fight Club and Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind are my two favourite films, but Butterfly Effect, Leon and a few others run them close. I really need to watch the Godfather Trilogy.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I did a stand-up comedy performance in front of 150 people (who all paid) after only four weeks of writing and practice, thankfully the gig got a good reception. There were 10 of us on the bill, all making our debuts - it was the biggest rush I've had from performing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach a bit of the process behind spoken word, chat about my experiences. I am a qualified tennis coach and personal trainer, and recently did a short life coaching course, although I haven't completed the accreditation for that just yet.

I am more than happy to teach and share what I know with anyone interested.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm really open to spending time with the hosts, getting to know them as well as the area. I have a calm nature, so I'm not someone who would cause trouble or abuse the hospitality.

I just believe that with the right people, it could be a really free and liberating experience for everyone.
