CURRENT MISSION

After the monotony of full time work for 2 and half years and indecision inbreeding in my head over university/career/life i decided to pack my bag (my bag's name is michelle) and leave southampton

ABOUT ME

after leaving school at 18 i weren't sure what i wanted to do with meself, so i got a job. After a while i realised i still didn't know what i wanted to do, just that i didn't want to stay in my job, so i started planning my trip. originally i just wanted to take the train from st petersburg to beijing, however after talking to different people (including a mate of mine who travelled for two years and is the most interesting and coolest bloke i know), reading bits and pieces and general thinkings it quickly grew into where it is now. I've been travelling for just under a year now, did a 3 month loop round mainland Europe, took the trans-siberian starting in st petersburg, down to moscow, lake baikal ('swimming' is cold there in septetmber...) into mongolia which was amazing, fell off Gary (my horse for the afternoon) and into Beijing for a month in China, highlight:yangtze river cruise on a chinese boat in third class. I took the ferry to Japan for a stunning month, then flew to Thailand, south then north into Laos, back up to Vietnam where i bought Martha, my chinese honda clone 97cc bike and rode over 5000kms in 7 weeks, into cambodia for a cracking month, back to Thailand for Songkran with friends, possibly the funnest two weeks of my life, then into Burma for a month. I'm currently in Bangkok flying to Auckland tomorrow. I'm hoping to be in NZ for 2 years, working and lending a hand on farms.

PHILOSOPHY

to live life and enjoy yourself as much as possible while causing as little to no intentional or reckless harm to people or the environment.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

At the moment i'm looking to surf or meet up with people, either for coffee/drink or for a wander, though will definitely host when i have a set location. I haven't used it through asia, and wasn't signed up in Europe, though i'm planning on using it to meet cool people and get a local's flavour of life.

being active, i love sports and being outdoors, walking, cycling and all those things! doing new things, meeting people and having interesting conversations. love cooking, it's something that's getting better and expanding.

music-small faces, bowie, zeppelin, beatles, rem, kinks, cat power, smiths, brmc, cure , hbms, primus, magic numbers, police, she and him, yeti and a bit of motown never hurt no-one.

movies- loads but top 5 which changes every week and in no order - usual suspects, control, four lions, cool runnings, the prestige (or every chris nolan film)

books/authors- Shantaram, rebus, dark materials, andy mcnab , autobiographies, when god was a rabbit. recently i've tried alternating between the classics and chick lit, so gone through Great Gatsby, 1984, Lord of the FLies, while also reading Love walks in, The time travellers wife, The tiger's wife, the Help, but i had to give up on Crime and Punishment after 268 pages, it was like banging my head against a really hard russian door with tiny font.

with little motorbike experience I rode to the northernmost point of Vietnam (in winter) down to the southern most point accessible by road on my trusty steed Martha.
