About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Explore new countries, meet people of all creeds and cultures, and learn as much as possible about this interconnected world. With the aim of using this knowledge to impact the lives of others in a positive way. Such as through shared experiences and laughter, as well as improved trade, economic, and development policy.

ABOUT ME

I've been living in East Africa and working for a social enterprise. I am an outdoor and music enthusiast, quite outgoing and love a good laugh. I'm always open to meeting new people and learning new things.

PHILOSOPHY

To travel is to discover that everyone is wrong about other countries - Aldous Huxley

Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it - Confucious

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I use CS to connect with people abroad, meet new people, find social gatherings, and get ideas for places I hope to go. I am traveling to North Africa, Eastern Europe, Southern Africa, and the Himalayas in 2018 and hope to connect with couchsurfers across these regions.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have crashed on numerous couches across the US due to my travels to see music and visit National Parks in different states. I have become good friends with these surfers and am blessed that I have places to stay all over the US and the world. I also had great couchsurfing experiences in Latin America from locals showing me around their hometowns. I hope to host more people once I slow down from work travel and have a permanent residence.

Interests

I tend to combine my varying interests of hiking/cycling/traveling and trade/economics/sociology by heading to places that straddle across all these disparate activities and ideas. Such as countries that have rich culture and history, along with beautiful scenery, high elevations, and emerging trade markets. I prefer to immerse myself in a new area as much as possible, as opposed to moving fast to an end destination. Along the way I hope to meet and travel with locals, while sharing our ideas and viewpoints. Ideally over a coffee/tea and stroll in a scenic setting.

Music, Movies, and Books

I have a diverse interest in music which is mainly compromised of jazz, funk, soul, and world influences. I lean towards books that are non-fictional, inspiring, and cultural, such as Shantaram and Unbroken. Some of my favorite fiction books are Brave New World and Cutting for Stone. My favorite movie is City of God, which you should go watch immediately if you haven't yet.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Climbed to the top of Mount Stanley on the Uganda/Congo border. An 8 day mountaineering trek through rain forest, bamboo, afro-alpine, rock, snow, ice and glacier. Some of the most unique scenery I've ever seen. It reminded me of Middle Earth and was well worth the challenging journey to the summit.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can discuss or teach a wide range of topics depending on your interests. My main work focus for the past 7 years has been in finance, strategy, accounting, and project consulting. I also keep up to date on foreign affairs, policy, trade, and economics. I tend to read a lot of history and sociology books in relation to the places I am traveling to. I could also teach English, speak mediocre Spanish, beginner Swahili, and am learning the basics of French.

What I Can Share with Hosts

For hosts, I can share stories, experiences, and travel advice for the places I have lived and worked in across the USA, Latin America, Asia, and Africa. I can also prepare an excellent cup of coffee, help with cooking (Italian being my most common), or order a delicious pizza. As well as practicing English and Spanish (and hopefully French soon). I'm also a keen travel partner if you want to explore more of your host location or country.
