About Me

Hey there :) I'm Dom, 24 and from the UK, though I grew up in Brussels where I went to international school with people from all corners of the globe.

I've been living in sunny, bohemian Brighton on the South Coast of England for the last four years whilst studying a degree in Media and Cultural Studies. However, this summer I decided it's time to move away to mainland Europe (I'm thinking Berlin!) before Brexit happens and makes that a lot less possible.

I'm an avid traveller and adventurer, who has a determination to pursue a slower pace of life closer to nature. Having said that, I love meeting new people and making them smile and laugh if I can. Finding the balance can be hard sometimes, but I'm learning. To be honest, I just want to have fun in life, (un)learn all there is to (un)learn and feel free!

I like to surf, but studying in Brighton means I haven't had the chance to do too much of that in recent years. More recently, I've returned to my interests in writing, contemporary dance and performance. My life mission right now is to chase whatever allows me to connect with these passions so that I can work towards creating socially and politically relevant work with other creatives.

I'm vegan in my everyday life but happy to eat vegetarian for the convenience of my hosts :)

I also like watching films, documentaries, and thinking critically with others about anything and everything that's going on in the world.

If you are hosting me or I am hosting you, it is important that you are queer friendly and anti-racist :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Right now, I am staying with my father in a pleasant but somewhat boring part of Belgium as I move between countries. Social interaction with young people is lacking so I am therefore looking to get away to Paris for a couple of nights to hopefully meet some cool people, reinvigorate my soul and get to know some parts of the city with a local. (Je peux parler Français si tu veux me contacter en Français)

More generally, I love to meet new people and believe we can learn so much from each other.
I like making a sense of home wherever I go in the world, and I'd love to help you do the same. If you've got a dog/cat/any animal I'll probably be just as excited to meet them as I will be with you!

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a sucker for nostalgia - Boyhood (dir. Richard Linklater) and Call Me By Your Name (dir. Luca Guadagnino) are two of my favourite films.

Give Julie Byrne a listen on Spotify

Favourite fiction book right now: The Overstory by Richard Powers is a beautiful novel all about the relationships between trees and those between trees and humans. It's more wonderful than it sounds!
